Old guy

I may just be old. but the new icons on the PoI are tiny. i mean like get a magnifying glass and keep it next to the computer :)

is there any way to have a larger set? or an option to switch between microscopic and normal sized?

taco-man 03-20-2005 08:43 PM

LoL They even get smaller if you use Ger's Icons Mod for EQ2MAP :)

You're telling me. No matter how I may feel, I know I'm not old, and I can barely see the things even with my glasses on.

taco-man 03-20-2005 08:49 PM

we are working on a way to change the size right now.

Tiggerdruid 03-20-2005 10:47 PM

You get to help beta-test this Tiggerdruid (if you're willing of course). Download the attached XML file and put it in the eq2map subfolder of your custom UI folder (over-writing the XML file when it asks). It should double the size of the POIs in-game.

Well I tested this out tonight and it looks great :)

I'm sure this has already been thought of, and probably already planned but how about a

- Small Version (the way the EQ2MAP mod currently shows)
- Medium Version (the way that EQ2MAP used to show before making the icons smaller)
- Large Version (the way that EQ2MAP shows with Quib's test file).

Ya'all can tell me to shut up any time you like :)

Quib 03-21-2005 12:00 PM

No, it's fine, the input is good.

The default (downloaded by the auto-updater) is small. Basically the smallest possible with our current system. You could do something to mash those dots down to 1x1 pixel, but that'd be silly.

As for medium, I thought the file attached would've made them appear like they used to... it doesn't matter though, it'll be super easy to make a size in between the two current choices and it shall be called, medium.

And large I guess is already done. Though I could do a larger, POIs-are-colored-squares, version.

We could possibly put into the updater a selection box that would let you download it with small medium or large POIs and it would download the styles file according to the selection. This may be the easiest implementation of this.

I had been toying with the idea of just having them in the EQ2MAP download section. My reasoning was then authors of custom icon graphics (like ger's POI icons) could include a style set file for the icons with the DDS file to specify what size they want them to be so that they look good.

Speaking of that, ger, take a look at the file window_iconstyles.xml and adjust it so that your icons look good in-game. Either method we go with (through auto-updater or manual download of iconstyles) I wanna make sure we get one in there that's a size you like for your icons. The bigger the iconstyle graphic reference is (default is 40x40 which is small, the "large" version I attached in this thread is 20x20) the smaller the in-game dot. The actual POI dimensions are 12x12.

Already on my to-do list. :) But UIInstaller is taking up most of my non-go-out-and-whomp-things-with-a-two-handed-hammer time, so it might be a day or two before I can get it taken care of.
