Not Launching secondary applications

i started getting java exception errors and reset all settings in updater menu and that cleared the exception report but after doing so when you click on the launchbutton after update it no longer launches the EQ2 launcher or any secondary application.

Yep, posted this in another thread but I'm having the same issue. Kind of annoying as I have it set up to launch my EQ2Map auto updater, which then launches my ACT and EQ2. Since its not triggering the EQ2Map updater, I have to remember to click it myself, and I'm old and forget =( LOL!

You probably have an old version of Java, and need to update it before the ProfitUI Updater will work. See: http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Yeah... no, I don't. I just updated it before this problem started.

There's been repeated weirdness with the Profit updater when updating Java. I avoid the automatic updates and do it manually, downloading the JRE from java.com and installing it manually. Profit's not a real application in the sense it's installed independently on your computer, it's a collection of classes that lives in the Java code cache and are downloaded on demand. Anything that messes up the cache can mess up the updater.

One possible fix is to fire it up through updater.pala.de and use the Reset Shortcuts or Reset All Settings options. If worst comes to worst you may need to use it's Uninstall option to remove it, go into your user "AppData\Roaming\ProfitUI Reborn Updater" folder and delete everything, then reinstall the updater. That's kind of extreme, you need to remember to note down ignored files, selected variants and so on before you do that, but it clears up the more extreme weirdness.

Things I did and this still persists:
Installed and uninstalled Java using Chrome, Firefox and IE - All versions did not launch secondary applications
Deleted my Profit folder and reinstalled - No secondary applications
Uninstalled Profit from the updater, and reinstalled - No secondary applications
Reset all settings on Updater and restarted - No secondary applications
Downloaded and installed both 64 bit and 32 bit offline Java downloads (I use 64 bit Win 7) - No secondary applications

So, not sure what else to do, it simply is not working anymore and it was working before. I know you don't deal directly with the installer, but since installing the updated Java 7, it no longer launches secondary applications, so something has changed and should be corrected, or that option removed if there isn't a way to fix it.

Is anyone gonna try and figure out why the updater no longer launches the secondary program? Is there somewhere else more appropriate I should post to, someone I should email or PM?

I push, because Profit still does not launch secondary applications like EQ2map for me since a couple of month. Profit Launcher and Java are up to date and clean reinstalled a couple of times. Any solutions to fix the Problem till now?

My Profit launcher continues to launch EQ2MAP_updater.exe with no problems.

Where is your Eq2map_updater.exe installed?

gandalf12 10-05-2013 04:31 PM

Donīt know what the installation location of the EQ2MAP folder has to to with my problem...but here we go. The installation path is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\EQ2MAP Updater\EQ2MAP_Updater.exe

Maybe it helps you to locate my problem

Have you tried installing the EQ2Map updater to a path that doesn't include spaces, eg. C:\Games\EQ2Map? Depending on how the Profit updater launches the secondary program the spaces may be causing it to run "C:\Program" with arguments "Files" "(x86)\EQ2MAP" "Updater\EQ2MAP_Updater.exe" which would fail.

gandalf12 10-06-2013 04:57 AM

Thanks so much.
That was the trick.
Installed EQ2MAP not in the predefined place.
Instead of i used a installation path without a space.
In my case the root of drive c.
C:\EQ2MapUpdater
Now ProfitUILauncher starts the secondary application EQ2MAP Updater as intendet

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for this. This has been bugging me for... well, a long time lol!

As an alternative, enclosing the full path to the secondary program in double-quotes might work as well. That should make it be interpreted as a single string rather than being tokenized on whitespace. I've just always been careful about spaces, since many things in Windows share the Unix shell's pickiness about quotes and whitespace when parsing command lines.

The game of "How many of which kinds of quotes, in what order, do I need to prevent tokenizing in this case?" is never fun.
