Strange Updater File??? [resolved. again. no, really...]
1 Attachment(s)
Ok I just ran Profit Updater and attached is a screen of something that makes me worry instantly. Why is everquest2.exe on the Profit updater?
Please answer this until then the updater has become an untrusted application. |
Hopefully a mistake but I strongly suggest everybody set that file to ignore. If you already downloaded it make sure you run your EQ2 patcher to get the official file again.
Seems my login to the updater's server does no longer work (which is hopefully unrelated) so I cannot delete the file or make statements to the trustworthyness of the thing at this time, you'll have to wait for Kaldran. edit: I did manually download the everquest2.exe from the updater's server and all I got was a 0 sized (empty) file. so really looks like a mistake. |
Agreed, I saw this and immediately distrusted it and decided to avoid this update until more information is available regarding it. There is ZERO reason for the profit updater to hit this file.

That is definately not supposed to be on there. Quick guess...Raphael finally got unstranded and messed up due to being very tired.

:D
Happens when testing different things in the same directory. Think it is fixed now. At least that made me think about having the hashes file signed itself. However it would be stupid to install malware by replacing the everquest2.exe as Java is not running sandboxed and has to have file system access. Most of you will have your passwords stored in the quick login file anyways, so no keylogger required ;) |

Well I restored the old data since in the last update pretty much nothing seems to work. Of course I restored the everquest2.exe with it :nana:
