error reading eq2.ini

thats what i get when i run eq2 maps.
says error raeding EQ2.ini file
System.UnauthorizedAccessException:Access to the path C:\Programfiles\sony/everquestII\eq2.ini is denied
at System.IO._Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorcode, string maybefullpath)
etc etc etc etc

im not sure what this mean, i have the ini file with the codes written in it like the instuctions say to do

That's some weird mixed \ and / in that path, hehe ( windows paths use backslashes \, while web URIs use forward slashes /).

Replace those forward slashes in your path with backslashes and see if that works. If it doesn't, then make sure you're running the updater as an admin, per common issue #1.

oh, the slashes were my bad typing :P. problem remains unfortunately.

The forward slashes should not be an issue although it's strange that they would be there in the first place (you cannot type a path in yourself?). Make sure you are running the latest version of the updater and that no other programs that may be accessing eq2.ini are running (like the game client, interface updaters, etc.)

And you're running it as an admin? Try deleting or renaming your eq2.ini and see if that changes anything.

I don't even know what they could edit to change the forward slash at that point. Thats like the codes internal venerable for the root path to eq2. I would bet more on it being a admin issue then a path issue. Windows will work with forward and back slashes all the same for paths. Its just weired that is in the middle...

renaming the ini file did it, thanks a lot people.
