Reason for illegal target is that who ever your attacking is targeting themselves or another player.

If your in a group profit ui ftw. the Quick cast on the group window gives the options as a healer for your basic spells. It casts them on you while letting you keep your current target. Profit also has the nifty little player window witch allows you to cure your self quick fast. (Be cool if profit added the same group quick cast buttons to the player for pvp but i don't think he plays on the pvp server )

However if you like to solo (i do) A couple quick macros for your self are nice.

Just open up the macro tab Drag your fav heal spell in the window in the option for a target writ in your own name properly capitalized. That will cast the heal on your self while letting you keep your current target.

Also of note You can do two spells in a row. My self i like Cure with a small heal and cure with a big heal. But it varies with each class ;)

Shaylen 80 inquis Storm Rising Nagafen

(anyone know if you can change your log in name here? haven't played izeals in a coons age)

SOE crap.

Its SOE's coding problem I think. I play a warden and solo quite a bit. When Im soloing some mobs I use faeire ally to heal me some. If i have the mob rooted sometimes the ally gets closer to the mob than I do and the mob targets it which is really weird in and of itself. While the mob is targetting my ally any and all single target heals will fail with the message Invalided Target. My guess will be that SOE doesnt have everything tagged correctly so that the heals will tag back the player.

This is actually intended. If the mob is rooted, it will go after the closest target it can hit. It knows it can't hit you, even if you are the highest on it's hate list, so it improvises. This also happens if a tank backs up while a mob is stunned, you are too far away and hate is affected by proximity as well as taunts and damage.

hehe, I do this all the time to the tanks. Pull a random mob when the current target is almost dead, and just root em right next to the tank :P

on topic: Don't forget you can save a whole hotkey setup too. If you know you're going to be solo, setup the heal keys to only target you

setup the hot bars then:
/savehotkeys solo

set them up again for what you'd use in a group
/savehotkeys group

Then just change accordingly to what you're doing
/loadhotkeys solo
/loadhotkeys group
