Temp files
Are there any plans to make the updater install permanently rather than in the temp files. I am a frequent user of Ccleaner, which basically cleans out temp files, browser history, cookies, etc. Every time I use it, the updater has to be reinstalled.
This isn't make-or-break.....I'll still keep using Profit regardless. It's an excellent UI and I find the constant attention to issues and updates refreshing. Nice to know that I'm using a UI I can count on to be up to date with the most current game update. :o |
The updater is installed permanently, if you use a broken program to delete it's files we can't help it. ;)

From the Auto-updater readme:

But that's just my two cents. |
That part of the instructions is a bit misleading. You can actually disable or wipe the Java temporary files after you installed it and it will still work fine, but it will put considerable more load on Kaldran's server since the updater would be downloaded every time you run it. The updater is a Java Web Start application, meaning that it is designed to be run transparently from the web, but unless something was changed at the source it can run from a local cache (the Java temporary files). You can try wiping your cache manually and you will see that the updater will still run fine.
That is because it is in fact "permanently" installed, there is even an entry in Windows' add/remove software panel, but apparently (from what you describe) your third party software is ignoring this and wiping the updater installation regardless. So that's why I consider the software "broken". I don't know that software, but maybe you can teach it to ignore the updater. |
Obviously it is configured to delete all files and folders named "temp", so this includes Javas' cache. The shortcuts installed by the updater are linked to files inside the cache folders.

Java Deployment cache
I use CCleaner and you can set it to skip deleting the Java\Deployment\cache directory contents. If you click the Applications tab and uncheck "Sun Java" the files will remain.
Hope this helps. |
