Installation for Vista Users
The FAQ's for installation do not apply to vista users, is there a writeup for us poor bastards that are using it?
thanks |
You just have to keep in mind that you are not allowed to write to the \Program Files folders. So if you want to edit files there, start your editor with administrator rights (right click). If you want to extract files there, the easiest solution is to extract them to another folder like \temp and then copy them to \Program Files. Windows will ask you for administrator rights automatically.
An even easier solution would be - at least as long as the software developers don't adapt to the rules which are in effect for many years by now - to copy/install your whole game to a path outside of \Program Files |
I don't have any issues using Vista either myself. I unzip and all kind of things in the program files DIR. It just ask for permission before it does it.
As Kaldran said; move your game out side of the program files DIR if you don't like giving permission or turn off AUC. |
I've had no issues with Vista... in fact I play mostly on Vista now.
But then again, I also absolutely detest how almost every program wants to be in Program Files\<Company>\<title> (especially since for the same company they change it! Which defeats the purpose!), so EQ (and most everything else important) is *outside* of Program Files. |
i cant create a .txt file in the eq2 folder to make the eq2.ini...
is that also because its under the program files directory? |
Open notepad;
Start->All Programs->Accessories, Right click on notepad and click on run as administrator. Click yes when it ask if you want to run this program blah blah dialog box. Then edit it the way you want, do a save as, navigate to your EverQuest II directory and POW! Your file has been saved. |
First thing i did after installing vista was installing a security suite and then i turned of AUC, you have a lot less problems after that. The AUC is a nuisance and i hated it from the very first moment.
"Do you want to do this?" "yes!" "Are you sure you want to do this?" "YES Goddamit!" "The system has noticed someone wants to do this - do you agree with that?" "Y E S !!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrr" - at that point i usually go through the roof *grin* I know i am exaggerating, lol, but i really think it's a nuisance for private users. |
I must be missing something, can not get eq2 maps to work. I have DL the files into my UI folder as a new file MapUI
I made a ini file in my EQ2 dir. cl_ui_skinname MapUI cl_ui_subdir UI/ but does not work in game did get this error message __________________________________ WARNINGS There were no warnings during this operation. You should not try to start the *.application file, whatever it does anyways :P
|
You should not install EQ2MAP Updater in your UI folder.
Use the default path from the installer ex "c:\Program Files" Then run the updater and point it to your eq2 folder if it can't find it. |
Got it Finally, Thanks for the tip. figures it would be something easy.
