Audio Alert

Are there any mods that will play a sound to alert you when certain events take place, such as when my root breaks? EQ1 had EQWatcher, where I could configure it to make a noise if a certain line of text was in my chat log. I know that the ACT parser has text to speech capabilities, but I am afraid that I will be too laggy with such a large program running in the background.

Far as I know, you can setup audio triggers to pick up any string of text, and attach a .WAV file to it. (Kinda like EQ1 audio triggers if you ever played it, but more capabilities)

In my experience ACT isn't all that laggy. And yes, you can set it up with a custom trigger so that when it sees that text of the root breaking, it can make a sound. I wouldn't use TTS, I would use a pre-recorded and relatively short wav file.

If you don't want ACT to do any combat log parsing, just set the Log File Input Language to "(None)". That way it's only taking CPU time to parse your triggers(and time stamps) and no additional memory to store combat data.

PS: My start into log parsing was EQWatcher plugins. :)

That aside, it is technically possible to make a UI mod to play a sound when a certain maintained spell drops... but you would be restricted to the list of sounds EQ2 exposes to the UI.

Thanks so much for all of the responses! I absolutely loved the EQWatcher program and that is the one thing I really miss from EQ1. I will give ACT a try and it will be neat to see how I am doing on my DPS too. :)
