This is usually a firewall issue, check if its blocked.

Martrae 11-25-2008 01:47 PM

I haven't a firewall and have the same issue.

Claymor811 11-25-2008 03:45 PM

firewall is down :(

jnils 11-26-2008 12:32 AM

Do you use XP or Vista ?

Claymor811 11-26-2008 06:28 AM

Xp Sp3....

jnils 11-26-2008 06:38 AM

Should work, i don't have a clue then :(

Landiin 11-26-2008 09:33 AM

See if EQ2 Henchman will work. /shrug

Same issue here...
Rather annoying...

The strange part here in my case is that it retries and then it works.
I still get the error message, though.

(XP SP3, btw)

Martrae 11-26-2008 10:21 AM

I'm running vista but the issue isn't apparently on my end.

Mine does the same as Kennin's btw. Fails, retries, then works.

gm9 11-26-2008 10:27 AM

If you say it works, does it ever download files then?

Kennin 11-27-2008 09:24 AM

Yes it does update, or at least here with me. Of course I cannot talk for Martrae. As I said, it retries and works then, exept for the error, which disables my autostart of EQ.

As it restarts and works, I highly doubt that "firewall" issues have got anything to do with this. If that were the case, it would never ever work, I think.

If you open options and disables Update on open, restart the program, wait a 5-10 sec before you press Update.
Does the updater still hangs on the first file ?

I used to have that issue... I was running a win2k domain setup. It turned out to be a DNS lookup problem. Win2k domains like to look at the internal domain server first then parse out to external dns. The first attempt, which it would fail, would be the internal lookup. The subsequent lookup, which would pass, would come from the external dns server. Since I set up new pc's running xp-64, I haven't had that issue since I no longer run a domain (well I do, but the gaming pc's dont log into the domain).

Well I can fully understand jnils' frustration with this. It appears to be some strange .NET issue. The problem is that jnils cannot reproduce it at all and I can only reproduce something a bit similar (but I get no error messages). I tried to figure it out today based on the issue I was seeing but the problem is somewhat elusive. While I managed to fix the issue on my system (without really understanding why the fix works...) I'm not sure at all whether it will work for anybody else. jnils will upload a test version later.

Good idea! I will try to remember to do that next time, and report here!

Kennin 11-28-2008 09:21 AM

That worked!

Martrae 11-28-2008 02:16 PM

I was still getting at least some updates. Yesterday it abruptly quit failing (although I haven't messed with any settings) and worked as it normally did.

Today when I started EQ2maps I received 241 updated zones/files and 2 new zones. So I'm just gonna assume there was something funky going on that's corrected itself.

jnils 11-29-2008 01:11 AM

Im glad it works now for you :)

Kennin 11-30-2008 11:25 AM

For me it still doesn't if I turn on the automatical updates and autologin...
And that's what it is supposed to do.

jnils 11-30-2008 03:21 PM

Ill see if i can come up with a solution for this.

Kennin 12-01-2008 02:31 PM

Maybe just a checkbox under "Options" saying: "Delay updater by 10 seconds"?
With the according delay of course.
I think that might help!
And I am not a programmer, but I think that should not be difficult to incorporate.

Kennin 12-15-2008 12:34 AM

I don't mean to push, but I wondered if there is any news? :(

jnils 12-15-2008 05:11 AM

Sorry for not replying, i have been busy , but think i can fix this soon :)
