Couldn't load .xml...
OK...I have been a big fan of ProfitUI since 1.8 and I have used nothing else since. However, I recently downloaded version 3.3 and now I cannot seem to get anything but the default UI. I checked my ui.log file and found the error:
Couldn't load .xml :: Could not access resource eq2ui_mainhud_poifinder.xml :: Failed to load data from included resource: eq2ui_mainhud_poifinder.xml Couldn't load .xml Encountered data outside of container tags Any ideas? Thx |
You most likely need to download and install the eqmap poifinder files. The files you need can be found here: http://gm9.eq2interface.com/portal.php?&id=15&pageid=11

Thx Nodor...i tried your suggestion and unfortunately it did not work. The following is my ui.log, which did change:
Couldn't load .xml Couldn't load .xml Encountered data outside of container tags Encountered data outside of container tags Encountered data outside of container tags Any suggestions appreciated. Cheers, |
Same here, i just disinstalled all ProfitUI and stuff related to do a new installation from scratch, but i have the same problem as you even with a new installation, dunno really what to do.

macgregs, you can ignore those errors, they are actually caused by files from the Default UI that ProfitUI references. If you get the DefaultUI, please reinstall following the install instructions (it may be helpful deleting your current ProfitUI folder to make sure you get a clean install). Install instructions are in the FAQ linked in my sig.
The POIfinder is optional and not required to run ProfitUI. morpheusone, please update to the latest version of ProfitUI Reborn. That file newcharscene.xml has been removed last year. ;) |
=O i just downloaded the last revision from here !!!
|
Ok, i checked, everything is fine with the ProfitUI files.
Could be that the problem comes after the merge of the server and changing of the zone from EU to US?? Otherwise really, everything is correct with the mod, but it always loads the Default UI, even if the ProfitUI is in the eq2.ini as default path. And i still get this error message in the UI log. Really odd :S Couldn't load .xml :: Could not access resource eq2ui_newcharscene.xml :: Failed to load data from included resource: eq2ui_newcharscene.xml Couldn't load .xml Encountered data outside of container tags Encountered data outside of container tags Encountered data outside of container tags |
Did you check the installation instructions for the special case of changing your region? You may have installed in the wrong path.
|
OK, thank you, i will check it :nana:
|
I can't find a region folder in my eq2 installation, i have only one for the test server but not for the US and EU region X_______X
|
Well something must have gone wrong during installation, your game is trying to load an outdated UI.
|
I just installed from scratch either Everquest 2 and ProfitUI, it's the same as before. It must be something with the .ini and/or eq2 files due to the change of the zone for the server merge. I don't really know what to do :( The UI log now is clear.
|
Type /loadui and click sur "ProfitUI Reborn", if it is there at all. If the version is anything else than 3.2 (for got to update it for 3.3 :o) then you installed in the wrong folder.
|
It's a lot that i use this mod! i know how to install it, so I am sure it's not my fault! I have just updated the new 3.3 before starting the game, so I don't know if previous was working, but I am sure that something changed in my eq2 folder after the darathar-venekor merge, and now i can't load neither eq2map nor profitUI, even if they are in the correct (usual) path and eq2.ini is correctly edited. It must be something wrong with the things SOE made for the merge ;( and now i am f***** up :(
i tried also /loadUI, ProfitUI is in the list, but if i try to load it, nothing happens! Default UI remains active! |
Well what version did it tell you on the /loadui screen?
Let's just have a look at your directory structure. Open a command prompt (Start Menu -> Run -> cmd [ENTER]), go to the drive you have installed EQ2 on (usually drive C, so type C:[ENTER]), go to the root folder by typing cd\, and then type tree /a >tree.txt. Post that file C:\tree.txt as an attachment here. |
I had the the same exact error as previous posters here. always the default ui kept on appearing. I even deleted old profitui from ui subdirectory of the game, and installed all of the 3.3 from scratch.
I reverted back to 3.2 since i wasn't able to make it work. I'd like to use 3.3 but cannot since it won't work. so any help would be appreciated. edit: I also tried to /loadui in game, and chose the profitui, but the ui didn't change. |
OH, so you say 3.2 is still working?

Here attached the game tree structure. |

It cannot tell you that it's version 3.3 because I never released a version with that information (ProfitUI 3.3 would still tell you that it's 3.2 ;)).
Thanks for posting the /tree, that looks ok so far, maybe deleting the \Cache folder helps and doing a clean install without additional mods (e.g. POIfinder). I had asked for a /tree from the root level however because I wanted to make sure that there is no other installation lurking somewhere. I did double-check the files and I can assure you that there is no reference to eq2ui_newcharscene.xml anywhere. In case ProfitUI 3.2 helps and you don't have it anymore please see attached. The only windows that I could imagine causing trouble in 3.3 would be the browser window and may the Japanese stuff. Try deleting _ProfitUI_Styles.xml, eq2ui_inventory_market.xml and eq2ui_mainhud_browser.xml from your ProfitUI 3.3 folder and see if the UI loads up then (some stuff will be broken because of the missing files, but you will see the graphics at least if it works). |
It does not work anymore in any case
I am just trying to install only eq2map to see if it's definitely a game update issue. :( |
OK, a standalone eq2map works, going to dig further
|
If you have some time, now do a clean ProfitUI install and start removing .xml files from it until it starts to work (leave eq2ui.xml and eq2ui_mainhud.xml until the end). Then copy everything back except for the file you last removed and see if it still works. That should identify the file that's causing it.
|
I installed profit UI 3.2 and now it works. Now I try to install profitUI 3.3! The only thing I did is to remove the folder "logincache-us" (see the tree you made me post). Maybe the problem was there, but I am gonna install step by step all the other things I was using before to see if some problem comes out again!
I am gonna keep you updated! |
OK, i found out what is reversing everything (dunno why) to default UI, and it's Profit UI Market Window
Nice, now everything is going to work as usual! Thanks so much for your help! Go on with your great UI! It's the best thing in EQ2!!! ;) |
Did you download and install that separately (asking because you linked it)?
In any case I'm glad it works now. :) |
Yep, i tried to install it separately, wasn't I do to like that? Is it still included in the ProfitUI pack? DOH!!!! :D
|
Refraining from installing the new Market Window 3.3 fixed my prblm as well...thx for doing the tedious work Morph...any idea why the Market Window might be causing prblms?
|
Hah, that solved it, I had never considered that you would be installing that separately. You do not need to. However, the eq2ui.xml included in the Market Window download was outdated and I hadn't noticed. By installing that you have overwritten the one included in the full ProfitUI download, which was working fine.
Many many thanks for bearing with me and figuring it out morpheusone, I just uploaded a fixed market window thanks to you. It also fixes two other minor issue, but I should update the full ProfitUI with that this weekend. Edit to add: While the installation instructions on the site here always said to not overwrite your eq2ui.xml, which you had done, I also noticed that the instructions for the Market Window did not include that line... so in the updated download I just point to the site, it's easier to just keep on place up to date. :) |
Market window sending ui back to default
I have used a mix & match of ui's since launch--a lotta Profit as well. After last GU, by process of elimination I deduced the culprit was the market window that was breaking my ui's. Gonna see if the update fixes the glitch.
