When you delete your eq2.ini file in main directory, should you also delete eq2_recent.ini ?

toddles 04-14-2005 01:00 PM

I am having a problem getting EQ2mapupdater to update correctly. On initial install and update I recieve several errors.
I am running XP SP2 home, and .net 2.0 beta. I update to 2.0 because I had the issue with 1.1 as well and though it might solve the problem.

MY eq2.ini files says:
cl_ui_skinname EQ2MAP
cl_ui_subdir UI/

The name of my custom UI folder is "UI"
Then under that directory I have the EQ2MAP directory.

Here are teh error message I get during update:

was the updater minimized at all by chance? the only info i could find about this error has to do with populating a datagrid while the window is minimized. just try again and make sure you dont minimize the program and then let me know. sorry i wish i could tell you more :(

nope you can leave that alone. also you should only have to delete eq2.ini if its impropperly set up, if it is set up right the updater just reads from it and updates to whatever directory that file is set to.

Talven81 04-16-2005 06:25 PM

A while back I spoke to you about the updater halting at 98% and locking on several files. Well I left the computer and forgot about closing EQ2MAP Updater and after what must have been 15-20 min I finally got an error message...

The operation has timed-out.
File: map_lavastorm.dds

The thing is this only happens on specific files. Hope this helps...

I saw another guy post something similar, he is behind a hardware firewall/router as well. Thing is it updates some of the files fine so... <shrug> any help would be appreciated.

Edit: OK odd the file halted at 98% but when I waited for that error message ran the updater again it said no updates. Could I have a corrupt file because of what happened? I dunno what type of checks are done on eq2maps... CRC or date-time?

taco-man 04-16-2005 08:06 PM

the updater SHOULD do an md5 check on the map files, but unfortunately it DOESNT, i noticed that i introduced a bug that causes the updater to only check if a file exists if it goes into the images/maps/ folder on the client machine, so it isnt checking it other than if its there or not. i already fixed the bug in the version i am working on, and there should be a short post about the bug on the firum, as well as the most recent thing posted in the "news" window of the updater itself.

about the only help i can offer is to try downloading the file manually, from here -> http://maps.eq2interface.com/POI_fil..._lavastorm.dds
and then putting that file into the images/maps/ folder of your custom ui directory. i wish i could offer more help but it is extremely difficult find what causes the error or how to correct it when i can't ever get the the error myself.

Thought I would post and say thank you for whatever you did, my updater displays perfectly now on my PC and laptop, I am very grateful =)

I was wondering if it is possible to change the path that the updater follows to auto-launch EQ2, I recently installed Mooks auto login (which i dearly love) and it needs to launch from the EverQuest2.exe file instead of the EQ2.exe file, but I cannot find a way to change it in the program, I did change the value in the config file but it still uses the EQ2.exe file and I am not sure what else would cause this.

If nothing else I can uninstall and reinstall to redirect it, but was hoping for an option that I am missing maybe.

Thanks for the great work, you guys rock =)

taco-man 04-16-2005 09:41 PM

there sure is, if you go back to the download page for the updater there is a section about command line options, look for the /setautolaunch command. once you set the the new autolaunch file using that command you will want to remove it form the place you add it to (the directions explain where to add it) or it will think you want to set what file to autolaunch every time. the new version will make this process much easier by adding a button in the program to do this. :)

Hi I'm having problem seeing the map  Windows XP Pro SP2. IE 6.0. Downloaded and installed the .NET framework. I know I'm doing something wrong because I still can't see the maps : ( I can install patch and update ok. I have windows firewall set to allow Everquest and the Patcher access to the web.

My install directory for eq2map is C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest II\UI\eq2map

For eq2map I have the following directory structure
UI\eq2map\ (this has the icons_xx.xml files and subdirectories)
UI\eq2map\eq2map (this has the icons_xx.xml files as above no subdirectories)
UI\eq2map\images (this has the dds files)
UI\eq2map\images\icons (this has icon_map3.dds)
UI\eq2map\images\maps (this has the map_xx.dds files)

C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest II\ has an eq2.ini file with the following text
cl_ui_skinname eq2map
cl_ui_subdir UI/

C:\Program Fiels\Sony\Everquest II\ has an additional two .ini files one called eq2_default.ini and one called eq2_recent.ini

eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml exists in two locations
1. C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI
2. C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI\eq2map

I have the Everquest II\UIBuilder directory and the associated sony UIBuilder.exe software.

I have read the _mapinfo.txt file located in C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI and I have also tried putting everything into C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI\eq2map but this didn't work either. The main thing I see different from the instructions is that I have two locations for eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml and that my xml files are duplicated under UI\eq2map and UI\eq2map\eq2map

The C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\eq2_default.ini has the following contents

cl_ls_address 199.108.12.33 199.108.12.65 199.108.12.97 199.108.12.129 199.108.12.161 199.108.202.33 199.108.202.65 199.108.202.97 199.108.202.161
cl_screenwidth 1024
cl_screenheight 768
cl_placeholder_base_lods 0
r_stats 0

cl_unload_resources_asynchronously 1
r_appearance_update_always_dist 25
cl_player_cache_dir logincache

cl_language English
cl_fullscreen 1

cl_alert_once_each 1

cl_log_crashes true

r_graph_over_time 0

r_looteffect 0
r_spawneffect 0

sfx_volume 0.90
ambient_volume 0.90
music_volume 0.50
combat_music_volume 0.55
voice_volume 0.70
resident_sound_volume 0.75

The C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\eq2_recent.ini folder has the following contents
r_performance 4

I'd love to use the map it looks really cool. Let me know if you can see what Im doing wrong or if you need any more information.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

NOTE: This is the firs UI customization I have attempted. Edited for spelling : )

Second Edit. I just tried getting on with the firewall turned off and no luck. *shrugs*

taco-man 04-16-2005 11:55 PM

if eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml exists at C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI then there is a problem, it shouldnt be there. in the C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI folder delete eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml as well as the eq2map folder. then go to the C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II folder and delete the eq2.ini file. then run the updater. it should create the eq2.ini file for you and it should place the files in the correct location so that the mod works. you will have to wait for it to download everything again though.

Belezar 04-17-2005 06:45 AM

Hi taco thanks for your speedy reply.

Well I deleted the duplicate xml file and removed the UI\eq2map folder and the eq2.ini file in the Everquest II folder and the updater did rebuild all the directories, xml and dds files as per the installation instructions game still runs fine, and the updater patches and still no map. Ahh well, weird stuff eh? Anyhow nevermind I guess I'll have to memorize the zones :) The maps look really cool though. All I can sey is keep up the great work.

Mabye if SONY puts such a feature in in by default :) it would save people like me some difficulty installing such a useful utility. Kudos for such a brilliant idea and your dedication implementing it. *cries pitifully*

I play on Najena server Fleshrend (SK) and Xolthar (Nec).

I received the following error when trying to run the updater when launching the EQ2MAP program after running the UISwitcher utility, and launching to the default UI:

The window was not minimized. It installed 151 new maps and updated 6 zone files before getting this error.

if the ui is set to "Default" then there is no point in running the updater, because the everquest 2 patcher will replace anything that is in the default folder with the default version. you need to set up a custom ui folder.

sounds like the updater is being blocked from accessing the internet. it needs to have access to the internet in order to function. check and make sure any firewalls you have arent blocking it from accessing the internet, and that they arent blocking xml files either (that was apparently one users problem) also check to see that if you use a proxy with internet explorer that it works and is set up properly.

Map Updater not displaying correctly

1 Attachment(s)
When I click on the updater this is the image that I am getting. I know it is not complete and I am missing much of the screen. Attached is what I am seeing. I am using Windows XP. Thanks for any help in correcting this problem and thank for a wonderful program.

taco-man 04-19-2005 06:25 PM

your problem is caused by running windows at a non standard DPI.the updater will still download all the updates, you just cant see the whole screen. the next version will be resizeable for people who wish to use non-standard dpi settings. if you set your computer to display at the standard (96dpi) you will see the whole screen.

Crashing ALOT

Hello, I just recently downloaded this wonderful mod. I absolutely love it. Unfortunately I have begun to crash very frequently. It will usually crash to the char select screen when zoning, but have often crashed to desktop. Sometimes it will do this when not zoning, but it is usually zoning. Some nights are worse than others, crashing 10 time in 1 hour. I had about 14 other UI mods prior to this that ran fine. As of tonight I have unistalled this great MOD and feel salty about it. I was wondering if others are having this problem or what I can do to fix it. Thanks

From various reports scattered around this site, it seams there is a general problem with some systems running ANY custom UI. Running in windowed mode seams to be a contributing factor. Having IE up also seams to be an issue.

EQ2 also seams to be somewhat picky about sharing bandwidth and can hang while loading/zoning if another app taps your connection. Best to avoid running anything that might use your connection while EQ2 is up, this includes chat clients like AIM, ICQ and Yahoo.

My install directory for eq2map is C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest II\UI\eq2map

I have the same setup and mine doesn't work either. Maybe it's just the xp pro thing that is having issues with the program? I just wish it worked. Looks like a great program. Hopefully someone on here will figure it out soon so we can enjoy it as well.

you can find a manual version in the download section of this forum. you dont have to use the auto updater if it doesnt work for you!

most likely you have an incorrectly set up eq2.ini, you have two options:
1. post what is in your eq2.ini file on this forum
2. delete your eq2.ini file and the updater will create a proper eq2.ini and make the custom folder when you run it after deleting the eq2.ini file.
