still no luck

The new patch askes me if I want to change the settings. Click yes
Brings up a pop up box that asks for the address and port. Tried to put in port 88 but I have NO clue on the address. Help please? I love the updater works great on the laptop (which uses the wireless signal from the router).

Thanks in advance! :o

Kaldran 09-30-2007 08:11 AM

If that popup comes up it means, that the updater could not find a way to connect to the updating service. If you need to use a http proxy server, you can enter that settings in there, otherwise leave it blank and try modifying your hosts file like it is mentioned earlier in this thread...

Still not sure what causes this error, but I don't think it is related to the updater itself...

Proxy server? how do I do that? I'm basically a dummy about this computer stuff

Kaldran 09-30-2007 08:23 AM

Just don't enter anything and try editing your hosts file according to this FAQ entry:

Possible error messages and possible solutions

Misb 09-30-2007 09:11 AM

Thanks it worked! :nana:

Nitrius 10-01-2007 04:55 AM

Just want to say that the updater works flawlessly so far here on vista x64.
It makes everything so much easier! Keep the good work up! :D

GeForceTony 10-01-2007 08:49 AM

A bit of a request :) .

I personally use a different UI directory than UI/ProfitUI

Is there any way to add the ability to customize (in the Configuration dialog box) the UI's directory, rather than automatically forcing it to be UI/ProfitUI?

This would be MUCH appreciated, and only make my fondness for the updater and ProfitUI grow!

We have a new version of it upcoming anyway, fixing a Vista issue and adding proxy support.

Regarding the service unavailable issues we are still tracking the reasons for them, so far it appeared to have been individual ISP's that had trouble with DNS resolution. Can you access the this link to the changelog in your browser?

I am having trouble connecting. I get a "Can't Connect! Please check your internet connection settings and try again later... Do you want to change your proxy settings"? I do and enter that link that's on the installer webpage but it doesn't change.

Also I tried that link you posted earlier for people having this problem and I cannot connect to that webpage.

Any help?
Thanks

gm9 10-01-2007 10:42 AM

GeForceTony, I already responded to that question a few posts higher up, currently this is not supported because ProfitUI does currently not support it (and for a number of other reasons).

darkblade70, --> FAQ. And remove any proxy settings you entered unless you really do have a proxy...

darkblade70 10-01-2007 11:02 AM

I turned off my firewall and Norton and it still doesn't work. I checked my router settings and it said it had opened up a port for "ProfitUI on port 88".

I also checked that windows folder but couldn't a "Host" file. I'm on windows XP.

Any other suggestions?

gm9 10-01-2007 11:34 AM

You should not need to open up any ports in your router, and certainly port 88 is not one of them. Your firewall will need to allow an outbound connection using port 443, that is all. Since that is the HTTPS port, it is usually allowed by default.

Regarding the hosts file - unless that file is hidden (check in folder options that hidden or system files are visible), which I don't think it usually is, then just create a new one with notepad and paste that line into it. Make sure it is just called hosts, not hosts.txt or something like that.

darkblade70 10-01-2007 11:35 AM

Nvm got it to work. Had to find/fix the host file.

Thanks

Is the Milquetowst Info Center also updated within your updater ?

Ciao

The entire UI is updated, and as part of it the InfoCenter (with slight modifications).

Nialith 10-07-2007 01:27 PM

The updater is great.

Just wanted to say thank you to gm9 and Kaldran for the great addition to ProfitUI Reborn.

One question though. Is it possible to configure the ProfitUI Reborn AutoUpdater to choose the EverQuest2.exe instead of the EQ2.exe? I didn't notice a way of choosing.

I don't like running the EQ2.exe unless there is an update by Sony, so right now I have EQ2Maps updater start both programs. It would be nicer if I could get EQ2Maps to start the Profit updater which would in turn start EQ with the EverQuest2.exe.

That make sense?

Calain80 10-07-2007 03:09 PM

You can use the options.

There you can chose to bypass the Launchpad.

xndienx 10-09-2007 11:17 AM

I have an interesting bug.

I patched the Test server UI the otehr day since i noticed Test PvP is up again, forgot to uncheck the box, then marked my eq2.ini as not being able to be overwritten in the updater since i made a change to it.

So i get done updating, and instead of launching EQ2 i exit out and run the EQ2map test server updater since i hadn't done it for a while.

When i run the updater yesterday to try and update a second instance of EQ2 i run on this machine, i noticed something odd:

The preferences wouldn't change. The EQ2 directory i pick wouldn't change nor would the test server preference or making a file not being able to be overwritten by the AU. I tried re-installing it with no luck.

Is there a file or a reg key that may be borked:confused:

Kaldran 10-09-2007 11:38 AM

This usually happens when the updater is not allowed to write to its config database, either because it is write protected or the updaters' permission is not high enough.

If you use your OS with restricted rights (which is default in Vista), please try starting the updater again with administrator rights. Make sure it updates itself to the latest version available (which is newer than the current download), and the problems should be gone...

xndienx 10-09-2007 11:42 AM

Im using an administrator account in XP since im the only one that uses this computer, what file(s) do i need to check?

Also, when i re-downloaded the AU, it did download the newest version again

Thanks for the info. I misunderstood what the Launchpad was.

It stores its settings in the user's AppData directory. For XP that is %appdata%\ProfitUI Reborn Downloader (just type that in your explorer address bar to get there).

You can just delete that folder, it will be recreated by the updater.

That worked, thanks :)

I am having trouble connecting.I get a "Can't Connect! Please check your internet connection settings and try again later... Do you want to change your proxy settings"?

The same problem from darkblade70.
I've seen the FAQ and follow the step, but still cannot connect!
I open "hosts" file and paste the line 85.214.17.144 updater.pala.de ,then restart computer, but still can't connect!
please help:(

Kaldran 10-11-2007 03:45 AM

Since that is pretty likely an error on your side, I don't think I can do much here. Make sure any security software you have is not blocking the updater.

trassel 10-11-2007 09:08 AM

got same problem as nicole905, and i've checked my firewall-virus-securityprogram and so on....still the same problem...

hobieone 10-11-2007 04:32 PM

double check you file permission on the hosts file and make sure its not read only. this happened to me until i switched it to read and write. then it worked for me. if its at readonly it'll still act as if it is saved but you open up the hosts files you wont see the changes you made.

trassel 10-12-2007 08:54 AM

still the same problem...maybe i'm stupid....can't find where to change to read and write...using norton internet security and windows XP...

hobieone 10-12-2007 06:08 PM

right click on the host file and select properties near the bottom it says attributes if the box next to read only has a check mark in it click on it to remove it hit apply then ok then it'll let you save the changes to the file

trassel 10-13-2007 03:25 AM

heh, that is done....but the problem still there...
have done that to all folders aswell....but no luck

Vanyari 10-13-2007 12:36 PM

"ProfitUI UPdater has encountered a problem and needs to close"

Get this when I try to run the .exe on this desktop. Have it working fine on my other desktop and on my laptop but no clue what could be causing problems here as it's a pretty standard XP setup. Get the standard screen asking if I want to send Microsoft the error or not. Any ideas?

Laanfear 10-13-2007 04:05 PM

I have the same problem as nicole and trassel...
looks like a good ui, but this updater simply will not run for me...is there a direct link to the ui i can use?

Guess thats a broken java installation...

Vanyari 10-14-2007 08:18 PM

Thought so myself so reinstalled Java first thing but no love. Oh well... it's a rarely used computer anyway... just one of those things that's nagging at me. If anything else occursd to you let me know please, if not, no worries.

gm9 10-15-2007 01:48 AM

Just to note: If you have trouble running the .exe, you can always try running the .jar directly, maybe that works. The .exe is mainly there for Vista UAC but otherwise not needed.

Nothing I did :P

If you use Vista or a right limited account with XP it just copied your settings file to your application data location. If it was never accessible before, it copied the default data file, so there were no ignored files set.

EQ2 error message

I keep getting this message

EQ2.exe not found. Please set your Everquest2 directory in the configuration first ..any ideas on how?

I'm guessing the path to the executable file has been changed somehow (perhaps you had the updater pointed at an eq2.exe file originally on the desktop, then said file was moved to a different location).

So is anyone getting a "Cannot Connect" error anymore?

I'm running Vista 64, firewalls off, routers not a problem, I tried the address in the host file, I even tried creating a new zone on my dns server.

I can reach updater.pala.de:443 in a browser but the updater will not run.

UAC is off, tried forcing it to run as admin still nothing.

Any reason Java can't find the address but IE can?

Got the same problem with all possible firewall off.
Connection through browser works.

tojejedno 10-23-2007 10:11 AM

Cant connect behaviour

Maybe it will help.

So I get "cant connect" and question if I want edit mine proxy. I press yes, enter something like proxy 80. Then press OK and the application quits. When I run it again, select yes for proxy, the field are empty.

Dnnt know, if its feature, or not.
