I was getting errors when trying to update, so I did the usual uninstall - download latest version - install - run... but the errors continue and now I'm mod-less since I uninstalled. I've looked on the forum here, but I don't see any fixes.
What happens exactly is the Updater will pause a short while, then an error message will appear, I click on the "OK", then another pause, another error, etc. These are what show up: Quote:

Great UI - 1 issue
I installed your UI and now I am wondering why I didn't install it years ago. Love it, great work!
I do see one issue. When getting a quest from a NPC, the quest accept windows opens but does not show anything in the description area. The Quest name and reward do show fine. |

The quest window has been fixed, thanks for the heads up!! |
Thanks
Man that was fast! Thanks great plugin.
If all if your features are not enough to love this UI having the chat window open while loading zones would be worth the installation alone. One question, with the browser is there a way to change the default tab or site it goes to? |

Update information
Just a thought for the next release. I would love to see at least how many files have been updated if not what ones when I run the update.
I'm not sure how hard this would be to program but I just like to know what is being changed. |

I love the UI but...whenever I change toons I have to keep entering my password in order to get to character screen, any idea as to why ?
thanks |

Update/install error
I tried just hitting the update button on my working copy but never got the new guild window so I tried removing, deleting the folder and reinstalling.
How ever when I click on full install I get an error wondow saying to can't create c:\program files\EverQuest II\EverQuest2.exe because it already exists. Here is the detail window from it: Quote:
|
Quote:
Not sure why your getting that error, my updater doesn't do anything with Everquest2.exe beyond using its location for path info. |
I love the UI
but the one little problem I have at the moment. there is a new feature on the guild page when I press U in game. it is suposed to show guild points. My guild has started using that to post the DKP, and your UI isn't showing it. I have no clue how to fix it myself so I'll leave it to the pro. thanks

Back to Normal
After losing my network host and most of my files, I think everything is back to normal now.
The installer will force a full install, please let me know if you have any issues. |
I've installed it several times now, and when I open EQ2 all the windows are everywhere.. in no real order, like it doesn't look like the screenshot.. I'm not sure how or what I'm supposed to do to get it to use the skin correctly. any ideas?
Here's what I'm looking at ![]() |
My mod does not place windows for you, you will need to arrange everything to your liking. You will only need to do this once, then you can use /load_uisettings on your other toons.
My mod only strips clutter, wasted space and unneeded graphics fluff from the windows. There is no configuration needed and runs on any resolution. |
oh ok, thanks for the awesome mod DB =)

installation problems
just installed the 14-day trial and found your UI. I will be purchasing the latest all-in-one pack soon as payday rolls around. but in the mean time i'm having probs installing your mod. i run in vista home premium 32bit. i've set it to run as admin and every time it starts it gets to the 3-4 file and i get the following error.

As long as all the folders are created correctly Vista usually has an issue with the eq2.ini file the updater tries to copy into your Everquest 2 folder. The contents of the file only needs these lines: cl_movie_enabled 0 cl_show_voice_tutorial 0 cl_ui_skinname DeaDBeaTs cl_ui_subdir UI/ |
still doesn't want to work. when i try to do a full install it seems to work up to the .exe where it errors out. If i click skip/ok whatever, it says its downloading files but it just sits there. i've let it run for 30 - 45 mins and nothing is happening. i've checked for the folders/files and its not creating anything. double checked the install path and its pointed to the main Everquest2 folder.
running the mod in admin mode as well as compatability mode winxp SP2. Nevermind on the help for fix. I opted to use a differant UI compilation. As much as I would have liked to use yours it is turning into to much of a headache to attempt to install. |
Cant move hotkeys around on screen
Hi. Love the mod. Problem I'm having is that I cant move/drag the hotbars around on my screen. When I hold down the left mouse button it just goes into mouselook. I have this turned off in options. I know this is minor and probably a noob fix for me. Can you help?

To install to "C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\TestServer\" then the file everquest2.exe must exist in the "TestServer\" folder, as my installer uses its location for pathing. You must choose this install path when doing the initial install as it is not the default. It will create a DBsMod folder under the folder "TestServer\" and look for the UI folder to create a DeaDBeaTs folder under "TestServer" as well. The easiest way to use my mod on test or beta servers is to simply copy a working eq2.ini and ~\DeaDBeaTs folder into the same folders under "TestServer\". |
the updater error!
(i've also posted this on the UI info page before coming here, so hit me for spamming :P)
the problem i'm encountering is basically that the installer wants to make a folder according to either EverQuest2.exe or EQ2.exe, and doesn't put the downloaded files into the UI folder. due to having either an "EQ2.exe" or "EverQuest2.exe" already available for the game itself as an executable, the updater can't make the "folder/file" and gives you the error. At least this is what i'm logically seeing whilst using the updater. the steps i've taken to get past this issue: 1) I've renamed the exe to .bak and let the updater download everything. 2) i've selected everything from the folder created by the updater and cut and pasted it to the folder above combining it with the existing folders. 3) deleted the folder with the .exe in the name 4) renamed the EQ2/EverQuest2.exe.bak back to being an executable 5) ran the game and it was using deadbeats UI :D however, the issue lies within the updater, and has to be resolved if the UI has to be kept on auto-update ;) i still had 1 question though, i've managed to install the UI finally, but do i need to use a certain code or something to get it the way its in the screenshot, since the default placement of the windows is just one big mess compared to the nice and tidy screenshot provided on the UI info page. (eq2 ui noob here :P) edit: after thinking about it most of the time since posting the above, my thoughts kind of came to the conclusion that the updater isn't working as it should, since under xp it points to for example: "C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\EQ2.exe" and under vista (yes i have 2 computers running different OS) "C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II" Under XP i cant seem to make the install path to look the same as under vista, the updater simply pastes the .exe at the end of it. Which ultimately results in the program wishing to download the files to "C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\EQ2.exe\..." (or whatever .exe is defined in the install path. the strangeness however is that you would expect such idiot behaviour from vista and not xp :p |
The installer/updater works fine for more than 9000 people :p, the initial download from here, is to set it up. It needs to point at your current Everquest II install, if thats not what's showing in the path, fix it by clicking on the 'Browse' button.
It then creates a new folder in your Everquest II folder called 'DBsMod' and installs the updater there. When you then run the updater it will create a new folder under Everquest II\UI called 'DeaDBeaTs, download the entire mod to the DBsMod folder and copy it to the new DeaDBeaTs folder. It thens confirms the location of everquest.exe to copy the file 'eq2.ini' into the same folder. I'll admit very kludgy but it works and has been working for close to 5 years now. |
Yeah, i know it works, i mean, it works for me under windows vista ;).
but no matter what i do, for some reason, the installer puts EverQuest2.exe at the end of the install path, wich ultimately results in the error that the exe already exists (as seen in some of the previous posts i've read). so my everquest install path is: H:\Station Games\EverQuest II\ but the installer makes it into H:\Station Games\EverQuest II\EverQuest2.exe And for some reason this results in the updater wanting to download the stuff into H:\Station Games\EverQuest II\EverQuest2.exe\.... If i rename the EverQuest2.exe to for example EQ2.bak or some other extension. the updater creates a folder called EverQuest2.exe. And under XP i really can't find a way to point it to the folder itself. I've posted (and i admit its a bit of a clumsy one) a little work-around for the people having this problem, and it does the trick. the only thing you need to do is rename the exe everytime before doing a download. I love the UI though :D, but is there a way to get everything placed as in the screenshot without having to manually move the windows? anyways thanks and keep up the good work :nana: |
You'll need to move the windows manually, but you only have to do this on one toon. Then use /load_uisettings on your other toons.

Click to cure
Is there a reason why click to cure doesnt work except for arcane? keep getting message "Only when crafting".
Sniff :( |
New Updater Coming
I am working on a new updater that will be more Vista and Windows 7 friendly. Until then I will continue to support the current updater but all new installs will be from a zipped file until I finish. Some windows won't work fully until LU51.
I no longer include InfoCenter nor Eq2Map2 you will need to manually update/install those mods. For EQ2Map don't overwrite the following files: _Skinnable_Controls.xml _Skinnable_Location_Images.xml _Skinnable_POI_Icons.xml _Skinnable_SearchBar.xml _Skinnable_SearchResults.xml _Skinnable_Styles.xml _Skinnable_WindowElements.xml _Skinnable_WindowElementsMini.xml _User_MapStyles.xml It won't break anything if you do but you it won't have the DB touch :) Darke: The group C2C is fixed |
Its good to hear that you are working on an update, because this really the best UI mod out there.
Anyway, i was talking about C2C on myself :P only cures when i click arcane, rest says "Only When Crafting" Is the newest version up here? |
Quote:
Just download the zip and extract to your Everquest II folder overwriting existing files and you will have the latest. The Player and GroupMember0 C2C is fixed as well. |
The zip only contains the installation.
|
You inherited the same issue as Profit - group window doesn't show group members, cannot click to select a raid member from the raid window. The larger threat meter did not have any numbers in it - I corrected that by adding the threat meter file to the list in eq2ui_mainhud.xml file.
