autoupdate..... nothing goes
this is the error:
error Getting File List: The operation has timed-out. btw i use a hardwarefirewall inside the router. so if this one is the problem, so plz tell me the stat's witch shoud be open. thanks Athmo |
Here is the printscreen. I am not sure if it might have an impact, but I am playing both on a US and on a France server (2 different regions).
|
He he I found the problem. Since I have 2 regions, it doesn't use the UI folder nor the eq2.ini in the main folder. I copy the eq2.ini in LP_REGION_EN_US and EQ2MAP in LP_REGION_EN_US/UI and it is now working great :) !
Great application by the way!!! |
you shouldnt have to open any ports its just like using internet explorer as far as downloading goes, see if you can download this file http://maps.eq2interface.com/POI_files/file_list.xml

Here's my weird problem
Ok, so I installed the auto-updating version, and it installed, and updated no problem. I log in, look at my map in town, shows me all the new stuff. I head into some dungeons and instances, shows me all the new stuff. But when I get out to Antonica, or EL, or Zek, it doesn't have anything new one it, just the regular map. But go into Rivervale or Nek Castle, and it works great.
The only maps that aren't working are the main area maps. Can you help me fix this? Thanks a lot |

no i can't download because the browser open's a new window and show me the text of this *.xml |
make sure the updater has permission from your software firewall to access the internet, i believe win xp sp2 has it's firewall enabled by default.
|
I'm having the same unhandled exception error now too. I haven't installed anything at all since yesterday (when it was working fine). I've installed the new .NET beta framework today after getting this error and still have the same error message.
This is by far the best mod and I want to keep using it - it still works fine on my wife's pc so at least I can copy the updated files from her pc for now. Any ideas on a solution for this problem? [edit] I just installed the 0.97 beta of the map updater and it works fine now :) |
Quote:
I didn't get a pic of it but just imagine that only the top left area of the updater shows, the rest (3/4) is off the area of the updater window. It looks fine on my PC but it is my laptop that has this issue, I run WinXP sp2 with all current updates on both. Resolution on the laptop (Dell XPS) is 1920X1200 whereas the PC is running a resolution of 1280X1024, this is the only graphical difference that I can discern. Simply allowing the window to be resizable would fix it for me, but I would really like to see the whole thing one way or the other =) Thanks for the great work, I <3 this map program!!! |
Look and Feel Problem with the updater
The update program, EQ2Map Updater, never opens a full window on my XP system (SP2) and there is no way to resize the window to full. I would like to see the text of what is going on in that window. I did not find anything in the FAQ that applies to that.

the next version will be resizeable.

ver 0.97 still crashing sometimes
Per the message in the updater, I am posting this problem with some observations. The crash seems to happen whenever there are a largish number of updates (most days of late). It also seems to be when there are only one or maybe 2 updates left although the progress meter usually sticks at 50+%.
If another application is already open at the time of the crash, you can change focus to it by clicking on its window. I am not sure the existing application remains totally functional. You can even start a new application by double clicking on a desktop icon. However, those new applications (including Task Manager) will hang during startup or shortly thereafter. In all cases the system tray (mine autohides) will not raise and I have to resort to the Reset button to get the PC back. I am running WinXP Home on a 2.8 GHz P4 with 800 Mhz FSB, 1 Gb of memory, Integrated NIC and an ATI 9800 XT (Pro I think it was). Thanks for a great UI Mod !!! |
Still don't see any POI's showing up in Feerroot despite quite a few listed.
|
Rivervale east not working
On my map system, rivervale east doesn't appear to work.
My map guide falls off the map at some point and it never moves to the other map for rivervale. Anyone else have this trouble? |
yep this is a known issue.
|
POI's not showing
At least in Thundering Steppes. I just logged in, via the updater, and when I opened my map all the eq2map poi's are gone. World map still shows the zone connection overlay so I know eq2map is running...
|

Error while running EQ2Map auto updater
I get this error each time I run the auto updater

help
I recent updated all windows patches, then ran the .net update from this site. Everything installed fine. Then I ran updater and installed it. It ran fine. Started updater, and it ran thru all files and got "up to date" and autoran eq2 from itself. After logging into my char, nothing. Same ole map files. Reran everything again. Nothing. Uninstalled updater and reran, nothing. Still same ole eq2 map files I have always had.
What am I missing or what am I doing wrong? For ui skin using default. And my ui file reads it is pulling from my default skin |

just delete your eq2.ini file and run the updater it will make it for you and create a custom folder named EQ2MAP in the EVerquest II\UI\ directory |
problem...
I get this message every time I open the updater...
Error Getting File List: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. Have checked firewalls, got the .net 1.1 windows update and looked through the forums. Anybody have any suggestions? thanks |
are you behind a proxy?

Problem for me too :-)
Hi,
Love EQ2MAP - it has made EQII much more user-friendly for me. I've only ever used it via the autoupdater with no recent problems, no crashes, and all maps were displaying as expected (with POIs and the extra maps that EQII don't supply). In the last 24-48 hours, however, many maps are no longer showing any POIs. I still see the tradeskill map, Oakmyst and Down Below - but the POIs are gone. The maps for Antonica, Thundering Steppes and the various townships around Qeynos look like they have reverted to the standard EQII maps. The "world" map is the EQ2MAP version however. Yes, I have been using the autoupdater to launch EQII, so I've been getting all the map updates 2 or 3 times a day :-). Is this the same problem the previous users reported? Any ideas on what I can do, or perhaps a problem has crept into one of the recent changes ... and wiped out all the POI info? Any information will be highly appreciated. Oh yes, and the EQ2Interface "minimap" that I'd been using for the past week has stopped working too - though I'm not sure when. Perhaps these problems are interrelated ... Regards, David |
db2005, my first suggestion would be to go to your custom UI folder, find eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml and delete it, then re-run the auto-updater. I've experienced trouble with the auto-updater properly updating this file.
taco-man, auto-updater 0.96 and 0.97 seem to only use MD5 for the icon pages, and are just doing an exist check for everything else. I'm not 100% sure of this; if you look over your code and find this isn't true, yell at me, but I tried running the newest version then a semi-old version (just before you went to an installation executable, 0.95f I think) and the semi-old version downloaded a couple files that the new updater didn't (eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml was the only one of importance I noticed, hence why I suggested to db2005 to delete their's). Quib |
are you sure? i just opened up the mainhud_map.xml file added a "1" on the first line saved it, and re-ran the updater and it re-downloaded the file so it seems to be checking for me???
|
Fair enough, I'll do the same test on 3 of my machines and let you know. I'll randomly mess with some of the DDS files too to be sure.
What I experienced before with eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml I can't explain, but I'll also be pushing a new version of that file to the website within a few days, so will have another chance to test that as well. Quib |
Ok, the good news is I didn't have any trouble with the auto-updater when I butchered the files and ran it, so yeah, I don't know why I had trouble earlier or why there've been a handful of sporadic problems where deleting files then updating fixed them.
So yeah, didn't mean to scare you, just am scratching my ehad about what went on earlier. db2005, if you're still having trouble, I'd suggest you try deleting your eq2map folder completely, re-running the updater, then reinstalling the MiniMap plugin on top of that. Quib |
Hi...i recently downloaded ur autoupdater map project and have really enjoyed it.
The only mod that I am trying to use in conjunction with EQ2map is: http://www.eq2interface.com/download...fo.php?id=3442 as u can see this is a hotbar mod....anyways....I dowloaded EQ2map and played around with it for a little last night, then this morning I log on to check the broker and the broker in East Freeport won't bring up the broker window for me.....can't get the broker window in Efreeport, Fence, or my home is this one of those 'the two mods have done something funky together' ??....The reason why I haven't totally just reinstalled is b/c this is the day they SAID they were doing broker selling without having to be online or in the house....which makes me wonder if for some reason they screwed something up (but no one I have talked to is having this problem)..... so to recap...EQ2MAP is working nicely....my orginal Hotbar mod is working nicely....but the brokers won't bring up the broker window :( Any ideas? thanks |
PuttyUTK, is that you cant type in the broker window or they just wont open the window at all?
|
they won't open the window at all
and as an update to my problem...and my own testing....its only 1 of my characters that is having this problem.....so thats means its SOEs issues? |
Hi Quib,
Thanks for your very prompt response. Quote:
The 50278 byte version *doesn't* work. It seems to be an internationalised version of last week's - for example "'" (single quote) characters were replaced by "'", and various other minor changes. Rolling back to last week's version (43904 bytes) fixed the problems I reported in my previous message. However, [and isn't there always a "however" :-)?] the autoupdater always replaces it with the much smaller 4641 byte version. On inspection of the latter xml code, I notice that it attempts to explicitly include files such as: eq2map/core_process.xml eq2map/core_overlay.xml eq2map/core_mapstyles.xml which *don't* exist in my eq2map directory - nor are they located and updated by subsequents runs of the autoupdater. The effect of this *new* problem is that when I start EQ2, and arrive in, say, North Qeynos, the main screen image is almost entirely blank. While bag contents and chat windows display ok, the main part of the screen - where you expect to see the fair city of Qeynos, yourself and all the animated NPCs - is blank. The map command displays at the expected size and coordinates, but the contents look like a screen dump of someone else's game. Truly, truly wierd. Anyway, for now, my fix is to let autoupdater do its thing, then copy back the week old eq2_mainhud_map.xml. The above problems disappear with the displayed maps and POIs restored to their former glorious appearance. I will shortly try totally removing the eq2map software and reinstalling it, to see if that prompts the autoupdater into loading the missing xml files. I'll backup the files first - just in case :-) - so I can report what actually changes if it would help. Please let me know if you'd like more detail - or quite a bit less :-) Thanks for everyone's ongoing help. Best Regards, David |
You have a pretty good grasp on what's going on with the files db2005, so I'll see if I can explain the size differences in eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml you noticed. There's something not working as it should though so we'll see if we can tackle that problem as well.
You noticed the references to the 4 core_*.xml files in the new tiny eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml (which I will call the "parent xml file" from here on). - A couple days ago I broke all the important map data free of the main map XML and put it into those 4 core files. This caused the parent xml file to become significantly smaller (as you noticed) and allows other modders access to the data stored within the EQ2MAP core files. I just double checked and the updater IS grabbing the 4 core files for me. You said you DON'T have the 4 core_*.xml files; this is not good (and the reason when you log in with the small parent xml file you don't get a 3D render and parts of the UI are busted). My only advice here is to make sure you have the newest version of the updater, and that the "Only Check POI's" checkbox ISN'T checked. If you have the tiny parent xml file, that's good, it's the newest version, if you still can't get the core_*.xml files, say so and I'll attach them while we try and figure out why the updater isn't grabbing them for you. Quib |
Hi Quib,
Thanks again for your continued assistance. Things are working again ... For your information, I'll tell you what happened: Quote:
But ... three hours later (during the game downtime, 7 hours ago) the missing core_...xml files were downloaded. I didn't change anything on my PC, I only reran the updater. So it is working now. The bottom line is that the problem has solved itself. The puzzle remains why the updater is able to grab the various zone updates - but could not download the new core_...xml files for 2 days. Could there be some wierd network caching going on somewhere between my brain and your server? Is there some network setting that may be broken on my PC, web server or (more likely) something misconfigured on my ISPs network server cache software (presumably squid)? Or could it even be timezone related - I live in GMT+9:30 zone (Australia)? I'm obviously grabbing at straws here. These unexplained intermittent (but consistently persistent!) problems drive me slowly insane. If the problem recurs, I expect to have access to a different (much larger) ISP in a fortnight - if I can finally get my ISDN upgraded to ADSL, telecommunications carrier infrastructure permitting. I freely offer my time for testing or debugging or anything else that may help you sort this sort of thing out. Finally, thanks again for your ongoing help, and for such a well presented and useful tool. Best Wishes, David |
When I uploaded the new, small, version of eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml, I uploaded the 4 core_*.xml files first, just in case someone was updating right as I was uploading, so what happened "shouldn't" have, though clearly it did.
I'm wondering also if it could be a cache or temporary internet files problem, where when you ran the updater it got an outdated list of the files and their checksums, and so then only downloaded the wrong files. At this point, I think this is the most likely bet and would explain why (myself included) every blue moon a file won't get updated by the updater properly; the patcher is grabbing the file list from a cache or a previously downloaded copy from temporary files and then doesn't have a new list of checksums which would cause files to download. What are your thoughts on this theory taco-man? Quib |
if its a cache it would have to be from the isp and not stored locally on the computer. it wouldnt suprise me; my high school caches all web pages through a proxy and it drives me completely crazy when i am trying to update web pages
|
Great program guys, ive run into some recent troubles.
I'm having the same problems with not getting any POI's or maps in game. i think your'e right about the ISP's cache causing probs, as ive previously had it working. i suppose it will be fixed when those 4 files size changes. |
Sgt Pitt, if EQ2 is still loading for you, but you're not seeing POIs or maps, it's more likely that there's something wrong with your custom UI folder or eq2.ini.
The updater problems affect a very tiny amount of people and typically just mean they don't get the absolute newest files for a day or two. Post the contents of your eq2.ini file for starters and we'll go from there. Quib |
I just downloaded the updater but when i try uploading i get what is shown below.can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong or what the problem is?
Error Getting File List: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. |
the 2 lines in my eq2.ini file are as follows
cl_ui_skinname EQ2MAP cl_ui_subdir UI/ thanks guys |
