One idea. Do you use a proxy? Check Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Java. Press the button for network settings and either select direct connection or enter your proxy information.
|
have the same issue with my systems also. one works other get message service unavailable and in both the network connections is direct connection as i don't have a proxy. one thought i have and not sure how to track it down. is wether it could be due to a ms security update by ms causing this as my system that works i haven't updated in a couple months wheere as the system it doesn't work is fully updated?
|
Proxy nope
I useing direct connect i check that already...
Here a screen shot just to in sure we are on the same track.. ![]() |
Are you using any security software which scans traffic on SSL port? Not only firewalls, but some virus scanners do that as well.
|
Pretty much tried everything that other have wrote and well I got the same issue
"The update service is not available at present! Please try again later." |
Ok
I removed and stop all secruity software and NO it still gives the same error.
I looking into a port scaner to see if I find out where it all goes wrong. Anyone have any idea??? I scaned my port and open the program and its not opening the port also not open any new port nothing ?? |
The port should be opened by javaw.exe, but I suppose you know that.
I just noticed that the updater does not appear to support proxy servers. The proxy info I enter into the control panel applet is just ignored. When I supply the proxy information manually via the command line it works: javaw.exe -Dhttp.proxyHost=PROXYHOST -Dhttp.proxyPort=PROXYPORT -jar Updater.jar Kaldran, start fixing the network code of Java. ;) |
True !
Also gm9 I not useing a proxy. Also it would open some sort of port to connect right ? I could be wrong though Hell I not know it all. :nana:
Network engineer <--- NOT! Thnxs for the quick answer maybe we can get this solved, if there anything else you want me to try let me know K! |

OK i think I begaining to see the error in the way. Is it just me or is anyone else having issue connect to the link he PM us ??
:nana::confused::nana: |
I'm currently checking the server's and backbone's network settings. I recently changed DNS settings, so maybe it did not propagate the domain names correctly. Pretty unlikely though....
|
you should have an auto-launch eq2 checkbox.
|
Quest Window
Ok, I have re-downloaded and re-run the auto updater multiple times and I can't seem to get the quest window to work anymore...the Quest Helper/Active window....It used to have the ability to right click and scroll to the most recently updated quest...Or am I incorrect and was I using someone else's mod to do that??
Thanks. Fyn |
Fyndolyn, you probably used Calain's mod, I still haven't gotten around to add that (but will).

Thank you very much. My bad...I looked around but must have missed it. Thanks for the link. Fyn |
:-(
Everyone I talk to loves the auto updater. I see that you're putting hard work into it and hard work to get it working for everyone.
Things on my end... ran the new .exe to see if it would fix my problem... nope. I still get the same "service is unavailable at this time, please try back later". I also noted another issue... I don't get the shortcut installed on my desktop or my program files as noted in the installation instructions. |
I can confirm that the shortcut currently won't be installed on the desktop, I broke something in the installer when renaming a file. The start menu shortcut should be there though, right at the top.
We have a new version of it upcoming anyway, fixing a Vista issue and adding proxy support. Regarding the service unavailable issues we are still tracking the reasons for them, so far it appeared to have been individual ISP's that had trouble with DNS resolution. Can you access the this link to the changelog in your browser? |

Ok... I do have the shortcut on the start menu. Thank you... I just didn't look where it was supposed to be. Quote:
As for the link, I am unable to reach the site. I am given the "internet explore is unable to open this site" error... Thank you... :-) |
Check your PM please...
|
That means that you have DNS trouble as well. I have an idea and will talk to Kaldran about that, don't despair. ;)
Edit: Dang I'm slow responding, didn't even see him above... |
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH.
I really do appreciate your help and time spent on this. |

Perhaps a temporary fix
Hello,
I added the following line to my hosts file. (you can edit this file with notepad) 85.214.17.144 updater.pala.de The file is in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc Open the file and add the line above to the empy space after the comments. I was able to resolve my "unable to connect" issues with this workaround. Please remember that you will need to remove this line once the other DNS issues are resolved or you may get connection issues in the future if the IP address of the servers changes. Oh, and Thanks GM9 and Kaldran. Good stuff. |
