One note about saving selections. Saving a selection in Photoshop creates a new channel in the image. You will not be able to save as a DDS with more than just the red, green, blue, and alpha channels present in the image. So if you do save selection, make sure to delete them from the channels listing (same window as the layers listing, different tab) before trying to save as a DDS.

I don't know, I find working with Alpha channel in Photoshp very easy. Either just don't use a background, but work over transparency or, if you prefer some coloured background for visibility, have it in it's own layer at the bottom and delete it before you save/flatten.

That way you can just save the transparency as alpha. No hassle at all. Don't know about other applications, but I'd guess they handle it similarily.

im using ps7 with the nvidia plugin for dds files, and ive been having major problems with the background bleeding into areas i dont want it to :)

i guess im a stickler for pixel-perfect stuff, and wondering if anyone has ideas on how to effectevely stop the bleeding.

method im using now is to put a 1px padding around everything and making that pixel the same color as the one next to it. ive tried using alpha maps and transparencies (many different ways also).

the biggest problem is that i have spots that need to be transparent, but end up bleeding a little bit around the edges in-game of stuff that isnt supposed to be transparent.
