Default gameplay vs UI

Dear Smarter People than me,

Im not sure if this is a game play(by design) issue or if this is a UI issue, hence the title. I recently rearranged my UI to better suit my play style. I have noticed that when I am typing in chat, it seems to lock my left, right, forward, and back movement keys. This is a real problem, as I have fallen to by death while running accross country chatting. Maybe Im overlooking something silly, but I wanted to ask. Do any of you have any input.

When I'm on auto run and chatting I've learned to use my mouse to steer. Its just the design of the game and something that only Sony can change.

Default could change your keymapping

to stop running i usually hit the backpeddle button, however i've remapped my movement keys to the number pad, so chatting and running don't interfere with each other too much (cept when i'm paying more attention to typing and run right thru some scary looking red aggros ;-).

Default i use a nostromo speedpad n50

When I play games, I use the Nostromo Speedpad n50.

I mapped the movement keys in a WASD configuration.
Then assigned a key for closest enemy, tab enemy, attack, waypoint

For the joystick pad by the thumb, I mapped it to
Inventory, Map, Spellbook, info sheet (Stat page)

I find it really help when moving around in the game.
I have yet to get really advanced with the button combos yet though.

this has been an issue since beta. its not truely by design, but is infact an issue with SOEs side. there are some solutions suggested above though..
