Default Wierd out of memory error

I am posting this here cause I think its related to my custom UI I use...

I am using eXtremeUI now but this has happened with other UIs...basically i will be playing along and then all of a sudden, EQ2 will give a critical error....where it ran out of memory..

Last one I got was where it was requesting a gig of ram...where I only have 768MB of ram....wonder if there is any special settings or something that I have missed that might help fix this.

So you never run out of memory while using the default UI?

If it is a Directx error is a memory link in the game. I have been getting this error since the release of the Splitpaw Saga. Has nothing to do with custom UIs as I have disabled and enabled them to check if it was the problem and it happens either way..

I have been getting Memory errors on my Vista computer alot especially since they brought out Neriak. I also have lag issues since. It just may be that EQII hates windows Vista. On my XP comp. i have no problems what so ever. And i do use bits and pieces of custom UI's.

Go back to XP =p
seriously, no idea, but i suppose vista is more memory intensive than xp.

I have vista on a second drive to mess with, but xp is still my main os.
EQ runs fins on it, but certanly no better than xp, probably worse if anything.
neriak is very laggy, prob on all but the real high end PC's

and i guess i would help to know much mem you have?

The error is caused by what the error message says.

It ran out of memory.

@Kagnar - You need more ram, or you need to restart EQ every so often to clear it from the ram. The more you zone, the quicker your memory will fill up as the old zones are kept in the memory with the theory of allowing you to zone back there quicker. And don't have loads of programs running in the background. Close down everything and you will get less 'out of memory' errors.

@Vista users - Vista uses a lot more ram than XP does. If I run my Vista computer with 2gig, I get the out of memory crash a lot. Run it at 4gig and I haven't got one yet

"Why did my computer used to be able to play this game fine, but now it can't?"

Well, two causes. As you use your computer, it slowly gets bogged down with programs and stray 'things' no matter how hard you keep it clean. I found it best to reinstall windows every couple of months to keep it running smooth.

And, as EQ lives on, they add more features, change code, add code, add zones, tweak graphics.....that it will be harder for your computer to process the game. The game evolves and you should 'evolve' your computer every so often with an upgrade to keep it smooth.
