Hot buttons with text instead of an icon

Hiya, I was wondering if it's possible to have the hot buttons set up to show text instead of an icon. In other words, you set up a macro that casts a spell and then says something in group.

My understanding is that you *have* to chose on of the 20 or so icons to show up on the hot bar for this macro. Is there any way at all to have the actually button show up with text. ie. An 'inc' button that says INC (like the old style eq1 interface) instead of some random graphical icon that means nothing to me?

not sure if I understand correctly, but let me see if I got it.

For one thing I have an Illusionist, and have macros setup to say to the group "mezzing %T" then the next line in the macro is "/usea Fascinate" or whatever mezz i have now i forget its name. And yes I wish I could have the icon for that spell for the macro, but no luck there.

I currently don't know enough about editting the UI to do this, but their might be away that you can setup the UI so you can edit all the built-in buttons for spells and abilities like a macro, so you can add in a line for saying something to group chat, that way yu dont need macros for the spells, just for random things.

Would be a great thing to look into. If I can start undersatnding the UI and everything more, I might try to do something like that, but seems like it might be a little tough.

A ghetto fix for this could be remake the image file that macros pull icons from to represent ones with text on them like the INC and HO.. THen make macros for all the abilities (ex: /useability Minor Healing), and the icon choices would point to same file but with new graphics to represent what you need.

There has to be a way to use the Icon for the spell as a hotkey (or macro) .. Just would need to figure out where EQ2 pulls the icons from and work from there.. If i knew enough about Interface skinning and the language used I would give it a go..

On that note any pointers on where to go for the beginner UI skinner ?

if all you want to do is change icons that requires no skills of modding.

all you need is a dds plugin for photoshop and you are golden. The icons for spells/items and everything else are found in
C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI\Default\images\icons

you do however need to understand that changing a picture will require you to treat it as a mod. Which means you need to write the ini file and put the image in customui\images\icons\

Is it possible to add more than the default ammount of icons already there. Say there's 20 there now, possible to have more than 20?
