47 is the correct answer..
Tickle answers it this way:
Break it down into the number of triangles that can be counted by looking at:
Individual triangles (three connected lines, but no other lines in that triangle) = 12.
Two triangles combined to make an overall triangle = 12.
Three triangles combined to make an overall triangle = 6.
Four triangles combined to make an overall triangle = 9.
Six triangles combined to make an overall triangle = 7.
Twelve triangles combined to make an overall triangle = 1.
I solved it in a less verbal way..
I figured it out by connecting the dots from a to g this way:
ABC BCD CDF DEG EFJ FGI GIJ
ABF BCF CDJ DEJ EFG FGJ GHJ
ABG BCG CFG DFG FHJ
ABJ BDF CFI DFH
ACD BDG CFJ DFI
ACG BDH CGJ DFJ
ACJ BDJ CIJ DGH
ADE BFJ --- DGJ
ADF BGJ --- DIJ
ADG BHJ
