Default A few questions on Permission's

Hiya's from a UI Novice

I have been working on a compilation UI that consist's of many UI builder's works. Now I'm about done and I think it's realy nice. Especialy for thos who like all those neat bells and whistles but can only run at 1024 x 768, like me. Now is it customary that I ask each and every author I have borrowed from? I assume yes but want to make sure.

Also, I'm not finding any info as to how I submit a UI to this site. I may not be looking as hard as I should either.

And last, is there a prefered packaging method that you UI designers use? ie Addons -> My Ui -> UI files and folders.... Zip or RAR((Found Answer))...I may edit this question with more LOL..sorry

I'd apreciate any answers you can give or just advice. Thanks

PS: If any of you'd like to know what I'm using and who I need permision from here's a list...
Zonx Numerous pieces some Nightfall and some updated pieces
DBurgdorf For multiple peices
Kenshiro for his Profit Maintained spells window...
Oh and Goldi for his start button... May be more names to come as well....

... To be continued

Permission:
I can't speak for everyone, but the overall consensus is that if we post here it's fair game for other modders to use/modify/distribute for free.

I donate all my work to the community that makes eq2interface what it is and have personally stated that anyone may use anything of mine they wish with regards to eq2interface.

Posting:

Then choose the category that best fits your mod.

Take a peek at some existing sets and you will see how most have the main download page and they then provide a link to the discussion page for all followup. (Make your follow up page first)

Mine originated from "compilations" but quickly turned into a "complete set".
Now its more of a complete set with others compilations offered as well.

Hope this helped answer your questions.

All EQ2 XML mods are by deffinition "derivative works" and can not be copyrighted.

Entirely original artwork and 3rd-party utilities such as installers, config tools, updaters, etc associated with a mod could in theory be copyrighted, but to my knowledge nothing uploaded to this site has been.

In short, you may freely repurpose and redistribute anything found on this site.

It is customary and courtious to credit anyone who's work was used or heavily inspired your work.

The FAQ has some good info, including how to upload mods.

If your set is largely identical to an existing set that allows "addons", its probably best for everyone if you comiple the changed files into an addon package rather than a seperate set. This will save you from needing to keep on top of both SOE changes and changes from the original author. You'll only need to worry about those files in your addon

ZIP is the preffered archive. Some authors compress the entire custom UI directory. Personally I prefer not to include the custom UI directory itself as this can cause problems for the user, particularly if they are modding your mod.

Always include a readme with install instruction if they differ at all from the FAQ. Generally a good idea to include one even if the install is standard.

Hope the above helps. Happy modding
