That's a setting in the options window, it'll be under display or user interface. the panel is called widescreen or letterbox

The chat boxes you make yourself. right click on the chat window and click "new chat window" and a new one will appear.

Don't worry there's not anything wrong with the installation, stuff like how many chat boxes and the size of the letterbox and window placement isn't determined by xml, it has to be set by the player (or if kudane wants to, he could add a ui settings file
)

Sorry the widescreen has to be even. it's harcoded.
