hex editing
I'm sort of new here, i don't make ui's, but i do hex edit the appearance of my characters using HxD, and i was wondering if anyone else does. (besides the ratonga goatee thing, but thats fun to)
:nana::nana::eek::nana::nana::cool: |
Maybe I'm missing what you did but meh :(
Yeah I've got a couple of hex edited character, there's some funny combinations you can do, in particular I played around with the fae/arasai wings when they came out.
Yeah, mostve the work ive done is with colors, mostly getting black hair for my friends, i used to have a ccf file with a piece of code in it that i could put on any character then they would have fae wings, lol, funny on ratongas, to bad it got deleted when i re-installed eq2, and the person who i got it from hated the new expansion and left :( oh well, ill figure it out sometime
Um... I've never heard of this, but it sounds interesting. If someone could point me in the right direction (I'm a hex noob) =P
Strictly client-side changes I'm guessing?
That's pretty cool, so it changes it In game permenantly? Is that allowed? I mean I don't see the harm in it, but it is hex editing files you shouldn't be touching. Also, if you don't mind hinting at what offsets the fae wings are at =P
I never dared to run with such a char on a live server, an ogre with fae wings would get some attention. :p So I only played around with it on Test.
For fae wings you need to save a fae .ccf file, take the wing information from there and merge it into another race's .ccf file. |
Ahh, so live servers are a no no? or is it a grey area?
I think in the end it won't make a difference whether you do it on live or Test, the EULA applies to both. For throwaway chars I don't see much of a risk, at worst they'll delete it, can't see them take any action against your account (i.e. suspending/banning you). But I do not know SOE's position on this, that's just my personal guestimate. If you want to do this with a char that you want to keep maybe /petition and ask?
I'm thinking it the CS Rep will not know the answer to this and will just give me a "No" then I will have gotten told no and they will have it documented. I would rather go with the grey area method on a character I don't care to keep, see what happens with it and go from there =P
Maybe we can get Rothgar on this =P Btw, my ratonga now has a beard on crushbone, but I still can't get the fae wings... I tried inserting them into my ratonga.ccf and ended up with bright blue whiskers and a bright blue beard... so confused =P |
anyone made any progress lately with fae wings on other races? i havent been able to yet :(
but if/when i get the wings to work, ill make a rapidshare file for the .ccf.
See, this is another thing I have been thinking about. .ccf files are sharable files. I can send you my .ccf file if you want to make your ratonga look the same as mine. So if someone sends you a .ccf file with a, for example, bearded ratonga, maybe you've never made a ratonga before. I don't see how SoE could take action against it, I'm sure they know about it and would have made changes to the way it works. Possibly some script that would scan the .ccf to see if it was hex edited. If they really cared about it anyways.
The more likely scenario is someone petitions your pink ogre with fairy wings. ;)

You're just jealous of my ogre. :D
Wait...you can do that?
LOL drago, where ya been? j/k, I just learned about this myself
I can't think of anything you can do in the editor that isn't already as messed up as some illusions in-game (ie a rock/giant badger). Not to mention, all race models used to be able to have fae wings when EoF first came out (faes could use an illusion potion and keep the wings and you would have an ogre with fae wings) I'm not trying to justify this by any means, I just think of it as more genetic experimentation and engineering. It's pretty clever honestly. |
It only changes client side though...right?

I've never tried it, but it would be how you would appear to everyone, not just on your side (assuming it works). |
I'm entrigued. Whether it's client side or not...how do you do this???
EDIT:NM |
I posted a link to Othesus great writeup above. Can't believe you guys all missed that when he wrote it.
