Which map looks more like the actual zone?

Brammator's map looks pretty nice, but Lyssia's map looks nice as well.

My initial vote would be for Brammator's, it has a better contrast between the hedge, the buildings, and the ground. Lyssia's is nice, but there's so much gray/dark green it all seems to bleed together.

gm9 08-30-2009 09:33 AM

I'd have said Lyssia for better use of zone textures and more of a "haunted" look. All that without ever having seen the zone though. ;)

brammator 08-30-2009 09:54 AM

well, she missed one part with penetrable wall 1-) upper left portion of map.

How do I get this map into EQ2Maps? Not sure what that DDS file is for. I need this thing so bad because walking through that maze in first person gets me sick! lol

Funny I looked all over for that hole in the wall several times and never found it. Will look again and adjust as necessary.

I chose the gray/green colors as they match the zone itself.

*edit* You missed one as well. ;) You are missing the section just below the one I missed.

Here are the updated/corrected files. Illusion hedge section added and lines made a bit more defined to help with contrast between path/hedges.

There are three things you need to make a map usable in game; the .dds image, the .xml code, and the poi file. (Well you don't have to have the poi file, but it helps ;))

You can find tutorials in the EQ2Map forums, which is how I learned to do it, or you can wait a little bit and I'm sure one of the maps posted here will be added to the autoupdater soon.

Integration details can be found in section 6 of the mapping tutorial, found here:
http://maps.eq2interface.com/index.p...aptutorial&p=7

You do not need to create a POI file, since the website does that automatically.

If it's much more like it looks in the zone, then I revise my 'vote' to Lyssia's, I always like it when the maps look like the zone.

xalmat 08-30-2009 02:15 PM

I prefer Brammator's. Much easier to actually see.

Lyssia's might be more accurate to what's actually in-game, but usability over aesthetics in my book. The contrasting colors makes Brammator's MUCH easier to use.

Lyssia's map also has the hedge size too thick, Brammator's is more precise to the actual thickness of the hedge.

Llogwey 08-30-2009 04:51 PM

There's a mistake with the "965.61, 7.90, -561.17" waypoint. The wall can be crossed only if you have killed Raven.

I didn't see anything behind except a shiny.

fixed doors and minor minimap bordering issue, added 'spooky' variant (but first looks better at minimap imo)

After reading over the comments in this thread and the poll thread, I've modified my map slightly. The background is now a bit lighter which gives a bit more contrast, and I added steps to the buildings. I made two versions of the modified map, with and without shadows.

1st: great maps! Esp. the one without shadows should now also be easy enough to read for most people. :nana:

At least I will use your map. Please keep up the good work. It would be a shame to loose a talent like you. :)

Thanks for the kind words, and don't worry, I'll be trying my hand at more maps, I'm sure.
