Description
After a long battle with the EQ2MAP and squishing it into Game Update #40 I decided that it could use a couple more features. The plugin system allows us to add optional modules to the EQ2MAP without affecting the core features of the map. When the map is small you notice that there's a lot of other junk in the window that you don't really need most of the time-- tabs, the fog checkbox, the waypoints button, PvP level range, etc. So I thought the map image could just cover them up... and thus, the Show Just the Map plugin was born.

Installation:
There are two versions of the plugin. One allows the map to close when you press ESC and the other keeps the map open when you press ESC. There are two folders in the zip file so choose which version you want.

Unzip the file and copy or move it to your CustomUI\eq2map folder. It should overwrite the plugin_1.xml file. The basic EQ2MAP installation includes files called plugin_1.xml through plugin_10.xml but they are just placeholders that don't do anything. (Fetish does use plugins 2, 3, and 4)

Operation:
  • First of all this plugin hides the old minimize/restore button since I never really used it.
  • 1st button: Show Just the Map makes the map fill the map window from top to bottom. Uncheck Show Just the Map to put it back to normal.
  • 2nd button: Small Size Map makes the map as small as it can be. If the Show Just the Map box is checked it makes the map even smaller!
  • 3rd button: Normal Size Map makes the map exactly the default size. The window will be a little smaller if Show Just the Map is checked.
  • 4th button: Maximize makes the window cover the screen. Press this button again to Restore the map to its former size and position.

The 3rd picture shows how you can adjust the opacity sliders to hide the window frame and background if you like. (This works with the default map and the EQ2MAP without any plugins.)

Technical Notes:
When you maximize the window the map stretches out a lot and when you restore it the map stays stretched out so you'll probably have to zoom out a lot. The mouse wheel is usually the fastest. This is the way the map zooming works and there doesn't seem to be any way to change it.

If you already use a plugin in slot 1 you can move this plugin to any other slot. If you want to move it to slot 8, for example, rename the file to plugin_8.xml and open the file in a text editor and change line 3 to say Name="TM_Plugin8" instead of Name="TM_Plugin1".

Version Notes:
GU 41 (12/12/2007) Zoom and menu buttons show on mouse over and added ESC doesn't close map version.
GU 40 (11/19/2007) Original version.

Bugs and Feedback:
I have a thread in the forums for my UI mods so please post there for general feedback.

Thanks for looking into this.
I added this button for POI Finder next to 4 default buttons for this plugin.
Think it looks bit nicer then default POI Finder location

diff if anyone is interested:

1. If you use the POI Finder it has a button.
2. I looked into making the window move to the edge of the screen but the scripting isn't quite able to do this kind of math.

Hi,

Thanks for great mod.
I was wondering if you would be able to add two small modifications?

1. Button that will bring up POI Finder window
2. The way that Normal-Small size shrink not to Top-Left corner but to Top-Right... so when you have map near right borer of screen and you change size it is aligned to right screen border. (To be honest i have no idea how this one can be done )

Anyway thanks for great mod and Happy Holidays!

Is it possible to make it go from Small Map size to normal size by expanding to the left instead of the right somehow? Reason I ask is I use it as a mini-map on the top right corner of my UI. But when I expand it to a normal size map, it expands it to off my screen. I then have to move the map to look at it.. reminimize it and move it back. Thanx for help.

Please don't worry about it. I'll add more information to the installation instructions.

Do you mean you're using all 10 plugin slots now? or you're using plugin slot #10? This plugin is for slot #1 by default. There are only 10 slots but I don't think 10 plugins even exist. What other plugins do you use? The EQ2MAP comes with 10 files that say plugin_1.xml to plugin_10.xml but they're just placeholders.

Im sorry to be so "dumb" I looked in the eq2 map folder and saw all 10 plugins, I assumed they were all in use because they were there each with 2k of information listed. I didn't realize they were "placeholders"
after re-examining them I see that all of them have the exact information.
I do recall a mod that used plugin_7.xml but cannot remember which it is (thinking that is the POIfinder one) but it does appear that all of them within my custom folder, at least for now anyway, are "up for grabs" so to speak. The mods I have added to the map only alter the files within the images folder and do not at this point seem to conflict with any plugin_*.xml files.
Correct me if Im wrong but I presume that most the plugins will (or have) go numerically so it is probably safe to use Plugin_1.xml since none of them seem to be used.

PLEASE forgive my naivety

OH one other thing before I screw up... in your write up you said one could rename the plugin_1.xml to another plugin_#.xml I have 10 in use atm so Im wondering, will it present a problem if I rename it (and adjust line 3 accordingly) to Plugin_11.xml?

You mean like the Alternate POI's by ger?
http://www.eq2interface.com/downloads/info4377.html

Yes, those just replace the icon images the map uses. I use the Milquetowst Map Graphics which are smaller than the normal eq2map icons. There are so many POI icons close together it's hard to see them all, but now with the zoom feature you can differentiate them more easily.
yes I prefer the alternate icons to tell what's what, and it also helps make heads or tails of which direction Im heading, by using his (this is you) Icon.
For me smaller isn't better, I wanna SEE where im going and whats ahead of me, in an at a glance, while im running, view.
