Answer

Yes

Assuming you install it in the correct spot of course. Read those installation instructions carefully.

I think I see your problem. You have eq2/ui/eq2map/eq2map. So you followed my instructions and installed the zip file into the folder holding eq2map, which in this case is your ui folder. But really it should have been done inside the first eq2map folder so that the plugin7.xml file gets overwritten in the 2nd subdir-ed one. Normally there is a folder with some other name in between UI and eq2map so I didn't take that possibility into account when creating the install instructions. You will know you are doing it in the correct spot when the unzip program asks if you want to overwrite the plugin7.xml file. Overwriting the plugin7 file in the right spot will give you the button on the map, but unless all the other files are in the right spot too this mod will not work.

ok sry for spamming this msg board but I got it to work YAY. Kind of at least moved the plugin 7 file inside the sub sub eq2map dir and left the eq2mainub_map file on the outside. So i have the little POI Finder icon on my map but it doesnt open when i click on it.

ok here is my dir setup,
i have sony/eq2/ui and my poi folder is in the ui along with my eq2map folder however the eq2map folder has a subdir eq2map folder with all of the xml files in it... the eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml is in the first eq2map folder seperate from the others. Does this file need to be somewhere else? I had tried to create a subdir in the ui folder called mapmods and put both poi and eq2map in it, but that just made eq2map stop working. I tried running eq2 as admin and no changes and i checked permission for the eq2 folder and i have all access. This is frustrating... I really need this ui. I'm gonna try and go back and look though my eq2ui_mainhud file agian and check it for the 100,000th time. BTW thanks for the response really appriciate it, hopefully this all works out in the end

I can't comment on Vista other than making a guess that it's probably the cause of your problems. Just a guess though. Make sure that you have administrative permissions for all EQ2 related files, including mods.

However, myself and all of my friends have the Auto Update version and haven't had any issues what-so-ever.

If you post the structure of your UI directory and the contents of your eq2.ini file it might help narrow down the problem area.

Not sure what is wrong

Ok so ive downloaded the zip file followed the directions to a tee, and have tried modifying everything that i could possibly think of. Suprise Suprise, still doesnt work. So here are my thoughts, input would be appricated, do you have to have the manual version installed. I have the auto update and im thinking that is probably the problem. However i thought i saw that someone had the auto version and it worked. Problem 2, Vista.... any ideas?

As shown in the screenshot above, there should be a small box just under the World tab so that you can open and close the POI Finder. If that box is not there then you have probably missed one of the installation steps. Start with that and please report back.

Hello a couple things, does this work with the auto version of EQ2map?

Also, if so, mine would not be working atm, I installed it as per your instructions (I think anyway) and what should I look for in game, a box added to eq2 map? Is there a / command tom ake it work etc.

Sorry, newb at this, but those are my 2 questions. I edited the file as you said, but now im wondering if its in the wrong place. Its in the same file that i put all the unzipped files into...is that right? (Along with the default and eq2map)

Re: updating

I've been updating it once every 3-4 weeks and occasionally sooner if something like an expansion or big Game Update (ie adding Neriak) causes a big influx of new maps and POIs. You won't see them all in the file archives since I also clean out the oldest one from the current version as I add new ones. I personally don't think much is lost by not having daily updates, but then I'm not as obsessive an EQ2 player as I used to be and don't feel the need to have every gameplay edge possible as some do. I believe Jnils created a program of his own based off the xml that you can use to update the files as often as you like. Or simply wait a few weeks and download my updates as I post them.

Latest update

As you can see I just posted the latest POI Finder map update. I re-did the installation instructions a bit as well to try to make them as clear as possible. I just upgraded to a new PC and had to do a lot of reinstalling and file transferring before I could run my script again. Its possible something got lost or messed up in the transfer so I'll keep an extra close eye on this page for the next day or 2 in case anyone has any problems with the latest version.

By the way, my thanks go out to all that Favorited this mod enough to get it into the top-10 list on the front page

Success at last!

Jnils, your a genious!

That worked perfectly and the mod is performing nicely. Please keep up the good work and don't ever abandon it as i love this mod.

I got to the point of nauseum with world of warcraft and all the wasted hours trying to hunt down NPC's and POI's for quests and such. With this little mod, those days are over. I switched to EQ2 a little over a week ago and with this little addition, I may just never look back. I only get to play for a few hours each week, this mod will help me squeeze out a few more quests each time i do get to play.

My most grateful thanks to you guys for putting this together and for your quick and helpful replies.

Re: Re: Still wont work

Thanks Jnils for acting as an unofficial customer support rep I've been out of town for the last 4 days so I'm glad someone is on the job. I'll try to tweak the instructions a bit for clarity's sake the next time I post an updated version. Probably within the next few days. But for now, do what Jnils suggested: make sure you extract the zip file to the MapMod directory and not to eq2map. The eq2ui_mainhud.xml file that you have to manually edit like you did should be sitting in the MapMod directory as well. And if it is not, you need to get an unedited version from the Default directory (see above) and copy it to MapMod before you start to edit it.
