That used to be caused by incorrect editing of the eq2ui_mainhud.xml file. That file isn't used anymore, but the eq2ui_custom.xml file took its place. So there is probably a problem with that somewhere. Since you are getting the links it seems your POI Finder Install Directory is correct. Try going through section 4 of the installation instructions again. And if that doesn't clear it up, try removing everything and then starting fresh.

O,O!

This beat mouse-overing every single poi on the map... or typing the name in to the tracking spell and running around til it shows up. >.>

I found a blank .xml file that was created when the POIFinder updater is run for the first time that is causing the overlay problem you described.

I posted about it on the POIFinder Updater thread:

Basically, anyone experiencing this needs to go back and delete their existing eq2i_custom.xml and eq2i_custom_poifinder.xml files. Then make sure you have the latest download version of POI Finder, make sure you rename the example file by taking out the '_example' portion of the filename, and then re-copy everything but the .txt helpfile from the extract into your UI\EQ2Map folder (or whatever the name of your custom UI subfolder is if not EQ2Map). I just did that and re-logged in and finally everything is as it should be. I did have to re-zoom in on the map as it defaulted to zoomed in close for some reason, but POI Finder itself looks perfect now as it should.

Note: I realize the instructions basically state to do this, but I'm saying do it again if you encounter this problem. Now that I think about it, I think the issue is isolated specifically with the eq2i.custom.xml and eq2i.custom_example.xml files. Ever since the first 'new' version post-RoK, I'd been ignoring the example file and renaming and copying it over each time after the first time I'd done it, thinking it only needed to be done once. That file probably has changed at least once in all the fixes/revisions since, and obviously there are others out there that had made this same mistake.
Doing this and then not running the poi finder updater did resolve the overlay problem. Thank you very much for the help! I'll just stick with waiting for updates to the poi finder for now.

Thanks for the info. It's really not a big deal for me to make my own personal changes with each update. Seriously, it takes all of 1 minute and it's always the same so no worries there.

Thanks again for everything and keep up the good work.

Every time I run my autogeneration script it creates a new version of plugin_7.xml. As there needs to be a line for every map file it scans. However the resulting file should only change from the previous time I ran it if there are new additional map files. Or if I fiddled with the code that creates the hardcoded begining and ending XML sections, as I did for versions 1.50 and 1.51 in order to move and resize the start button. Usually if nothing changed I'll just reuse the file I used in the previous zip file (I keep a separate set of directories on my PC for zipping up the POI Finder mod so I can diff them against the latest script output). If the file isn't any bigger and the date hasn't gotten any newer, it hasn't been changed.

Thank you for the response.

1. I un-installed EQ2MAP v1.0.6 and installed a fresh copy of EQ2MAP v1.0.15 and the problem persisted. This was even with allowing the updater to replace the Fetish version of eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml against Zonx advise otherwise (which I think can be safely done now without causing conflicts).

The only way for me to correct the problem was to completely remove any traces of Fetish map files within the eq2map directory. The only 4 files that I could tell that might have caused this issues (as they were Fetish files that we weren't allowing the updater to replace due to other issues) are the following:

eq2map\core_menu.xml
eq2map\core_plugins.xml
eq2map\skinnable_Skinnable_Styles.xml
eq2map\skinnable_WindowElements.xml

Therefore, I'm left to believe that the new "OnMapChange Event" comes from one of these files and Fetish would need to be updated accordingly to take advantage of this new feature. Maybe you could get confirmation from gm9 on which file would need to be updated and how so that Zonx could add that to his list, or I could do it myself for my own personal use.

2. Including a 2nd location file might help others but for me personally, I use a custom location to fit my custom grid overlay that others might not like. Besides that, I prefer a smaller button so I also now change the size as well.

Do you usually alter the plugin_7.xml file when you do POI updates? If not, maybe making a note in the Update section about when that particular file is changed would help me to determine if I need to spend the time making my own personal adjustments.

At any rate, thanks again for everything.

EDIT: Just to note that I've taken the discussion on issue 1 above to the Fetish boards since that's where the conflict occurs. I can verify that the issue doesn't occur without Fetish installed so you can rest easy that everything is working as you had intended.

Yikes! A lot of questions and issues to reply to since I last looked here last week.

Badattitude - The UISwitcher you speak of.. are you talking about the EQ2 Henchman application? That currently does not work with the POI Finder.

FFringe - 1.51 is quite similar to 1.50 but that is quite different from 1.35 (as the large number jump indicates). Not having a newer version of EQ2Map might in fact be the cause of the lack of zone updating as gm9 is responsible for the changes to both the Updater and the changes I made going form 1.35 to 1.50. And I think he told me something about needing to include something new in EQ2Map to let the POI Finder know when to check for new zone Information.

As for the location of the button, I considered bundling an additional file with an alternative button location with the zip file. Would this be of help? You'd just have to remember to use it instead of the default plugin_7 file every time you obtained a new version.

For Tynd and the others having wierd colored backgrounds and other strange bugs... my best suggestions are to make sure you've cleaned out any old references to the eq2ui_mainhud_poifinder.xml in your eq2ui_mainhud.xml file and make sure your eq2ui.xml file (if your install directory has it at all) has a line that includes eq2ui_custom.xml. Beyond that... I'm not sure.

The problem that I'm currently having is with the following:

"new links wiill automatically load as soon as a new map area or zone is entered. No more mousing-over needed."

I was using the version that gm9 posted on 11-16-07 (Link) which was just prior to v1.35 and when zoning or changing the map via the Fetish "AnyMap" drop-down menu everything worked great. Granted, you had to mouse over the POI Finder window in order for the POIs to update to the select/current map but it still worked.

It would appear as if v1.51 has changed something to where this feature no longer works neither automatically nor via mouse over. The only way to update the POI Finder window is to close and re-open. This holds true for zoning or changing maps via the Fetish "AnyMap" drop-down menu.

EDIT: Also, could you please tell me what code needs to be changed to make the Open/Close button remain in place like it used to when it was at the top. Now it moves upwards when the window is resized which makes relocating the button to my preferred location un-usable since it will move offscreen when I shrink the map.

EDIT 2: It would appear that I've figure out the solution to the button location issue as removing the PackLocation seems to have done the trick.

EDIT 3: I just realized that the system on which I updated the POI Finder on hasn't had the EQ2MAP update. It's still running v1.0.6 since it's been working well and I tend to follow the "if it ain't broke" philosophy. I'll update it later this evening and see if that makes any difference and I'll report back one way or another.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you kindly.

Blank Page

I don't know if this a ThorUI issue or not, but in the ThorUI I get a blank POI page when I click on the button at the bottom of the map. Fetish Nightfall worked properly. Prior to adding Fetish Nightfall and the UISwitcher the POI mod worked perfectly in ThorUI.

So, I removed Fetish, EQMaps, map updaters.. all that stuff and tweaked for the better part of 3 hours... still a blank page. Any suggestions before I head butt my monitor?

Thanks,
Badattitude

I experienced the same thing and after a while I tweaked my window settings and came up with a white background. In the window settings window it's the bottom set of bars that fixed it for me.

One more post and I'm done....copying and pasting this from the last post I just made over on the POI Finder Updater forum:

I decided to do a completely clean install of all my mod pieces since I'd been running out of the same EQ2Map folder in UI for over 2 years now with various changes etc, just to rule out any possible corruption or problematic areas on my end. I moved my existing EQ2Map folder, installed the latest EQ2Map and let it pull all the files down, added in both the latest POI Finder and POI Finder Updater versions but didn't run POI Finder Updater yet. I logged in and there were no issues anywhere that I could see. I logged back out, relaunched EQ2 through EQ2Map, and then manually did an Update All with POI Finder Updater, then logged back in......and this time the overlay bug wouldn't reproduce, but the "Thieves Way icons showing on other maps" bug did. So I closed out EQ2 again, re-copied all of the POI Finder files over into my EQ2Map directory again overwriting everything existing, log back in and the icons are straightened out in terms of the TW icons showing on every map, but the actual TW map is once again blank.

So one way or another there's at least still some kind of issue with the Update All function on the POI Finder Updater, or there's possibly some issue with POI Finder itself causing a problem with Thieves Way, or both. No clue which, but that's all I can come up with....so I'll just live with Thieves Way being blank at this point since most of the time I don't go there anyway of course. *g*

Hope maybe this offers some insight anyway and maybe between you both you can figure out what's going on. But as for the overlay bug, based on what I just experienced, while it might be a little tedious, I'd definitely suggest doing a clean install of everything whether folks use EQ2Map or a different custom UI folder as their base to resolve that one.

Hey Tree...an addendum to my post below:

After fixing the problem, my friend and I were running around in the different level sewer zones below Freeport, and there appears to be some kind of weird conflict that might be interelated with the bug from that screenshot and Thieves Way. Once the bug is fixed, when you go into Thieves Way, all the icon dots and everything are missing in EQ2Map. Furthermore, the "Show POI Finder Window" button is a good bit smaller than when the POI Finder issue is fixed. Now, you can open up POI Finder at this point and all the links are there for everything you should be seeing on the map, and if you click the links they work, but everything on EQ2Map is completely blank aside from the outline of the zone itself.

To fix this, I went into the options for EQ2Map and forced it to redownload all files. Then of course had to reload my custom icon set. After doing that, all the icons and such were back on the Thieves Way map, but....the weird overlay bug from below was back. So I closed EQ2 back down, copied the POI Finder files back over, and then (note this step) I also use the POI Finder Autoupdater program that jnils wrote so just as a safe measure, I manaually made that do an "Update All". When I logged back in, POI Finder was fixed again, but....the icons were gone again. So then I thought, ok, I'm going to try and narrow this down. I went into my UI\EQ2Map\eq2map folder and deleted *only* the Freeport sewer icon files, then ran EQ2Map again and let it pick those back up, POI Finder updater auto-ran as normal, I logged back in, and both sides of the issue were fine, both POI Finder was fixed and the icons were back. So ok, just to be sure I'd locked it down, I log back out and close down the EQ2 client, ran only the POI Finder updater with another forced "Update All", logged back in.....and voila. The icons are still there, but the POI Finder overlay bug is back.

So bottom line, the problem/bug here doesn't reside with you or with POI Finder, but something in jnils' POI Finder Updater if you do a forced "Update All". Furthermore, somehow Clefts of Rujark is involved there, because you can barely make out that name both in the screenshot ashes posted below as well as on my end everytime I look at it. Anyway....I'll go over to jnils mod forum and carry this information over for him to look into.

I dont like the button being on the bottom left of the map. I know its not in the way of anything else down there but man it just dont feel right. That is the best criticism i could come up with! Otherwise keep up the great work.
