Well, I figured out the problem on my own. And you may want to add this into your instructions.

If you don't already have an eq2ui_custom.xml, when you create it/copy it from Default, you need to add <include>eq2ui_custom.xml</include> to your eq2ui.xml file.

Added that one simple line to that file, and taadaa! it works like a charm! (Now to update my POIFinder to be the latest version...)

Thank you so much for a wonderful mod, and I'm so happy to finally have it working again!

Better now?

Well I've updated to 1.35 which along with an issue fix includes a new eq2ui_custom_example.xml file and I've again heavily updated the install directions. I'm thinking they should look a lot simpler now. And more importantly, actually BE simpler now Those of you who had questions about which directory is the right one to install to should take a look at the 2nd paragraph of the updated Installation section.

Its a Perl script, not a Python one, but equally difficult for most either way. I do like the idea of integrating with eq2map but I guess I'd have to talk to the EQ2Map people about it. I also believe they've been working on their own, built-in poifinder-like feature already (there's a beta version out there somewhere...)

Re: Cannot get POIFinder to work

Having the same problem here this morning after updating it. Its installed 100% correct and i cant get it to show for the life of me. Opening it just makes the click sound. Tried all the normal stuff, keep mainhud visible, even though since there is no mainhud probably is a useless function, alt ~ ect... Im useing a heavily modified version of the latest fetish ill try an install with no other mods to see if it helps any.

Cannot get POIFinder to work

I've followed the install instructions exactly (up to the point of copying and pasting the information into the eq2ui_custom.xml to make sure I didn't have any typos), but I cannot get POIFinder to work. Clicking the button on the map does nothing but make a clicking noise.

And yes, I'm installing it into the correct folder. My UI folder is Everquest II/UI/MyUI. I've installed everything into the MyUI folder, copied the eq2ui_custom.xml from the Default folder, and modified it to match your instructions. Nothing

I think i remember him saying it was a python script which would make it a little difficult for most users to use it... But i am curious to the code hes using and or if another method of that approach can be done another way with a vb script or something and make a small program to update it. Possibly build it into the map updater I like that idea.

Was wondering in your descriotion above you stated...

The bulk of the .xml files contained in the zip file are autogenerated using a script I created. It scans every icon_<zone>.xml file that comes with the EQ2Map mod and creates links for every single POI included. So if you add a new EQ2MAP POI it won't be found by this mod right away but will the next time I post an update. I will be posting new versions built from the latest EQ2Map Autoupdates once every 2-4 weeks.

Can your script be intergrated with this on our end so when eq2 is started up it will scan the icons as u stated above and update for us so its not needed for you to posted a new dl 2-4 weeks?

I swear these have to be the most confusing instructions i have ever read.

My folder are as follows..

sony/eq2/ui/eq2map

inside are

eq2map, images,eq2ui_mainhud_map

So is everything supposed to go into the 2nd eq2map folder or the first one?

Woot got it !

I finally got it all together and working! To everyone having problems, just drink some beer and it all becomes clear. I'm serious, without booze I was getting ready to give up on the whole thing.

Thanks man for updating POI, even though this release is probably the toughest update that any of us has ever done, we appreciate the work that you have put into this. In the future more modders might be using the eq2ui_custom.xml and when they do, those of us who stuck with this install will be glad that we did.

Peace
Slee

Most of my install instruction tweaks (and a correction for one possibly install-killing typo) were done this morning so its possible you would have had an easier time of it today then last night. But I'm starting to lean toward the idea of including the custom.xml file or at least an example version like I did before with the mainhud next time I post an update. The problem with posting the actual custom file is that it would overwrite any changes made to the file by other mods like Profit that also use it every time you install the latest POI Finder download.

Let me appologize for the complexity of the new installation instructions. I've tweaked them about 10 times already in an attempt to make them as simple to understand as possible. But if you still are confused about anything don't be afraid to ask. The good news is that once you do it right the first time, for all future updates it should just be a simple matter of unzipping the download to the correct directory and you will be ready to go.

POIs for Kunark Launch

With all the new maps and POI's for Kunark comming soon I plan to increase my update rate significantly for the next few weeks. Perhaps as much as twice a week, at least to start. Look for the first update no later then Thursday (assuming the expansion goes live tomorrow as expected). I will also probably update the version number for the first time in ages once I figure out how to using the new eq2_custom.xml file.

Re: Where do we give you updates?

You don't give them directly to me. Go to http://maps.eq2interface.com/, click on the Points Of Interest menu for the Submit New POI option, and use it. That way they get added to the main EQ2Map Mod. And once they're in there they'll eventually find their way into one of my POI Finder updates.
