A new world map can be included as soon someone makes one

I know you've gotten a lot of this, but GREAT WORK! I try to contribute POIs when I can, and who knows, maybe someday I'll get a non laggy computer and make some nice maps for you guys

What happends if you disable autoupdate and press Update after a few seconds ?
Does the update still timesout?
If by autoupdate you mean going into options then unchecking the "update on open" option...then no, no change. I tried it a few times with the same error as the result.

A comment I might add is that when you first start eq2maps it says checking databases for about 15 secs (which makes sense) before it craps out and you get the error. When you hit the update after the error it says "checking databases" and then immediately says "scanning installed files", without hesitation and updates as necessary, which is how it used to work. Adding the retry to database download would be an interesting experiment if you didn't change the timeout. Maybe the issue here isn't eq2maps or our PC settings, maybe it is the database server having issues trying to keep up with all the initial update requests. It would be interesting to know where those who are having issues are and where those who aren't having issues are in relationship to the Database server, it might just be a traffic/location issue.

Database error workaround

Thanks to Jnils for a working suggesting to get around this error:

Checking Database
Failed to download Database
Error downloading File:
DATABASE
The operation has timed out
Using cached Database
Scanning installed files
No Updated Files
No New Files

If you are getting this error trying clicking on the Update button on the eq2maps interface right after you get the message. So far by clicking on "Update" after getting this error I am able to get the updates 100% of the time without having to do a complete re-download of all files. And I get this error 100% of the time when I first start eq2maps.

Thanks again for the workaround Jnils.
