Gear Buff Macros
There are many items that cast desirable self-buffs ("clicky buffs") directly from inventory, or as wearable gear. Often buff items must be worn while casting, but the effect remains after the item is removed so you can equip a piece with better stats. Common examples include Shrunken Goblin Skull Earring, Earring of the Solstice and Fishbone Earring. Instead of searching through inventory or using up hotbar slots with complex macros, you can configure up to 12 item buffs in a separate window.
A wide variety of item types beyond gear pieces are good candidates for a buff macro including totems (runspeed, invisibility, etc.), mender bot, teleport items, food and drink, tinkered lifestones and manastones, repair kits, divining rods. If you use a specific mount when tradeskilling, you can set up a macro to switch to it from inventory.
An item buff macro can be set up to handle clickable items in one of three ways:
Cast from inventoryMost items that you can right-click and Use without equipping can be set up this way
Equip and cast the buff, leaving the item in the slot. Set up the macro this way when the buff requires the item to remain equipped
Equip, cast and swap the original item back into the gear slot
For item buffs that add a spell effect to the Maintained Spells window, you can optionally configure the window to report when the Maintained effect has expired. Also, if you are using Advanced Combat Tracker (ACT) or other log parser to monitor cooldown timers, a command field is provided that will execute a line of chat text or other command to assist with this.
Showing and hiding the windowThe XP Command Bar and the Start Menu can both be configured with a button to toggle the Gear Buff Macro window. If you want to display the window continuously you can choose Show window on login.
Configuring a macro
Gear buff macros include the following items:
TitleThis labels the macro and appears as a tooltip on the tile. You can use the name of the clicky item or its buff, or simply leave the default name.
Gear slotIf the item is castable from inventory, choose Cast from inventory from the dropdown list. Otherwise choose the specific item slot (Left Ear, Right Wrist, etc.) to be used.
Buff item IDEvery item has an internal ID number. This value is used in commands that move an item from inventory into equipment slots and to cast spell effects. The easiest way to determine an item's ID is by using the DarqUI Utility which will look up the ID by name from the Daybreak census server.
In the utility, click Assign item and input the exact name of the item containing the buff. The census server will supply the correct ID number. Hovering over Verify will reverse the lookup, showing the reported item and its icon.
Note that the buff item supplies the icon displayed on the tile when you perform the lookup. Click (window manager) or right-click (utility) the icon if you want to use a different one.
Worn item IDSimilar to the buff item ID, this value will be used to swap the desired item back into the correct gear slot after casting the clicky item's buff. If you want to continue wearing the same item, put the ID into both fields. If you are casting from inventory this field is ignored so you can leave it blank.
In the utility, click Assign item and input the exact name of the item you want to wear in the slot after casting the buff. The census server will supply the correct ID number. Hovering over Verify will reverse the lookup, showing the reported item and its icon.
Casting timeThis is the time in 1/10th second increments required to cast the clicky buff. You can usually determine this value by examining the item. If you supply the exact casting time, the buff may not always finish casting due to lag or other factors. To avoid this, add a few 1/10th second increments to the total time on macros where a gear swap is specified.
Display this tileYou can show or hide a macro tile to save space in the grid. Hiding a tile won't erase the data in it.
Maintained buff to monitorSome clicky buffs will appear in the Maintained Spells window. For example Earring of the Solstice adds a Maintained buff of the same name. In these cases, you can optionally type the exact name of the Maintained spell into this slot, and the window will check periodically for the presence of the buff. If it is not found, the macro tile will change color as a reminder to recast. If you choose to monitor the spell in this way, make sure the Poll Maintained spells checkbox is checked.
Note that only Maintained Spells can be monitored. Spells in the Spell Effects window cannot be monitored.
CommandThis optional field can include any command or line of text from the chat window. If you are using Advanced Combat Tracker (ACT) to set up a buff timer you can send a line of text into a chat channel as a trigger. Note that the leading forward-slash / is not used.
